cheating off-line would inflict directly on trophies, some games are hard to beat and if there is a cheat device or program it would ruin the trophy system

Actually there is a way where I can FTP into my trophy data hex edit to give me all the trophies in any game I have ever played. Cheating won't make it any easier to get trophies.

So where do you draw the line between cheaters who cheat for fun, and cheaters who cheat for an unfair advantage? One of the things that broke MapleStory (for me) was the sheer quantity of cheaters (including my own brother) by the time I quit.

Then again, I may be the same. I might not cheat online, but I do find it fun to observe people's reactions. You can probably include my lasts two posts in that comment, in that they were a less-than-subtle attempt to provoke a defensive followed by a self-justifying response.

Unfortunately people who cheat for unfair advantages are cheating for fun. There must be some arbitrary enjoyment (as small or large as it can be) having unfair advantages over other people. I have seen online videos where people make their own cheats and play online against each other, each hacker with their own codes. That gets interesting because some hackers really cleverly made their codes that gave them greater advantages over the other hackers. People like me, who experiment with a games by modifying some random addresses don't really care about other people knowing about it. I have posted maybe ~10% of my codes on Geckocodes and that was because I was bored. Experimenting with games is a hobby because I get to figure out how the game works and which addresses read which values and what I could do to break and destroy the games limits.

For example, I had fun making this code on megaman wii ware:

Notice, I wasn't even playing the game, I was just the brains on the PC end =P

So people will have to find some other e-peen to brandish about, big whoop.

please dont be THAT person thats going to ruin ps3 hacking for everybody and cheat online, thats the one only thing that ruins any hack/mod, you make even us pirates look bad

Oh right you have such great morals, don't start jumping down the guys throat just because he mentioned cheats, Jesus, not all people want to noob about and cheat online, there are so many games that I would like to have fun on offline and never finished because I didn't have time for it. I really hope for a cheat program now that we have the master keys.

Well.... The majority of CURRENT Noobs.... they want cheats for online.. but then they get banned so

Excuse me? I'm hardly a noob. I've been lurking GBATemp off and on for over two years.

Also I don't even play games online. Don't have the connection speed for it. Plus I know better than that.

Plus its not like cheats are anything new to GBATemp. If my memory serves, there is a section of the site where Narin keeps a massive database of cheats for systems, two of which can play online. I don't see why I have to become the target of hate for bringing up cheats for the PS3.

i fully see the fun in cheating and creating cheats, as i myself spend more time actually modding a console then i do actually playing the games, but i really wish people would keep cheating away from online, on all platforms...many people use online for competing, so the cheaters are basically the assholes that cheat in baseball. as they say, cheating in video games is like the special olympics, even if you win, youre still a retard

If I have played games in the past 3 years it's to utilize cheating utilities like Gecko to see how I can experiment with games, what different things I can do for fun.
I totally appreciate the sentiment. I remember in the old days when I had a snes and Datel's Action Replay. I could lose an evening trying to find a cheat that would make Mario jump as high as possible. It was stupid entertainment, but entertainment nevertheless.

As for online cheating, I hope it won't be done. Pirating is one thing, but online cheating is a bridge too far. It's stuff like that that'll give people at forums like this a bad rep.

So MW2 is completely ruined online due to cheats I hear, and there's no way Infinity Ward can fix it because of what's going on with them, right?

Already? That sucks. It's stuff like this that make modders look much worse to the outside wourld than just pirating.
