There is no difference.

Unlike older RGB cables or audio cables which transfer analog signals, the signal is sent digitally with included error parity bits to recover degraded signals (which is the same like you would read a CD).

This means that there is no distortion when there is more noise.

People think expensive cables are better, therefor they rip them off. A 5$ hdmi cable is quality wise the same as a 200$ gold plated one. The only difference is the price.
Depends on the length - if you are needing a 5m+ cable then you will want to get a more expensive one. Shorter cables wont suffer as much from being cheap and nasty though.

EDIT: well to qualify - the cheap ones have plastic sheathing which suffers more from signal degradation. The expensive ones are metal/mesh encased so don't suffer as much from this (granted a 10m expensive one can still be picked up for ~$66AUD in AUS so probably cheaper still elsewhere)

if you don't need a long cable 5 meters or less you can use the cheapest cheapest cable you can get (you should take a look at what hdmi version it supports though). if you need a longer cable just go for some midrage cables the most expensive one are only really for audiophiles.

Ok thanks! I already thought so since HDMI is digital and a 0 is a 0 and 1 is a 1. :P Just to be sure. And I need a 5M one. :3
