Hacking Charging using USB

HI, is it normal for charging a NDSL usin USB to take 3x the time needed compare to using the charger provided??

Never actually tried But I suppose it would.. Im not sure whether it depends on what type of pc you have, but I know from my Ipod that it takes longer to charge via usb then it does via my dock..

well, my charger is rated for 5.2v 450ma. now a standard usb port should be able to provide 5v 500ma, so it could be a slightly lower voltage, or, if you have other things plugged into your computer perhaps they are hogging some of the current.

have you tried using a powered hub?

I noticed the same sort of charging time with my USB charger.
I do believe this is normal.

yes totally normal.

I think the usb charger is meant for playing your ds plugged in. That is, assuming you play your ds in front of your computer like me XD

thats why i got a mains charger for my imported ds lite, charging it via usb was taking ages and i had to sit near the computer while it charges.

original charger for my country is 5.2V and 450mA so if i use a 5.0V and 500mA charger will it burn my set ot in long run spoilt my charging point??

i would say yes.... it would take longer if you have an older pc...
its probably becasue those usb chargers are not made by nintendo, too

It's not only if you have an older PC. Anything that is charged by USB will be much slower at charging.

USB chargers are useful for emergencies (although where you would be with access to USB but not an electric outlet I dunno - maybe the library?) but a proper charger is definitely preferable.
