Good Evening

I'm trying to change the region of a PS1 virtual memory card sav from europe that has 722 cards to the USA version since I own the USA version of the game on GAMEFAQ here is the link
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/561010-yu-gi-oh-forbidden-memories/saves

unfortunately I followed a tutorial I found here
http://janstechblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/howto-changing-region-on-ps1-savegames.html

I followed the instruction, but unfortunately every time I do this the sav is corrupted? I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

There's no thing such as "changing the region of a save" - because they don't have regions in the first place :)

Sure, a save with a filename starting in (made up) "SLUS52456" must have come from the software whose titleID is SLUS-52456 and "SLUS" happens to mean "3rd party and American", but the only thing that matters is that the entire titleID is different (therefore they are different games, even if they may have similiar names and happen to play mostly the same, and there is absolutely no guarantee of compatibility between them!)
