So I've been trying to work on the process of installing RXtools after reading tutorials and am still confused on the details.

I have an R4i (no Gateway), but I still start the process with Gateway's launcher.dat. Here are the steps I've arrived at.

1. Install Gateway launcher.dat using R4i DS card and MSET exploit.
2. Run "Format emuNAND" from Gateway menu to create emuNAND partition.
3. Install DevMenu aka. BigBlueMenu to emuNAND.
4. Use DevMenu to inject FBI loader. [Is this step necessary to install .cia files to emuNAND partition instead of sysNAND??]
5. Install RXtools and run RXmode to play .cia backups. Backups will install to emuNAND partition.

Is this right? Still a little hazy on what steps are actually needed to play backups. How necessary are steps 2, 3, and 4?
When you format Emunand, make sure you go to system settings in emunand and format system settings so it won't mess with sysnand. It separates the two. Step 4 isn't necessary I don't think. You should be able to use devmenu just to install .cias normally.

Ok thanks for the help, I got everything working. I skipped the step to update my emuNAND beyond fw 4.2 at the moment because I was short on time (leaving town tomorrow morning). If I update my emuNAND to fw 9.9 at a later date, do I have to repeat any of the setup?

Nope! Updating is fine. :)

Actually we import most of our games, since we actually do tests against physical carts. Daz imported at least 4 or so DSi carts for testing, and I myself buy my games from either eShop or physical. Works best in the long run. And we don't need an out of region console since region unlocking home is fairly easy. Plus there's plenty to be obtained from the firmware on stuff in the header as well.

Also, I'm not sure 100% what you're blabbing about with Gateway, but if you're trying to say everyone is just leeching off Gateway's features, you aren't wrong to be honest. I'm personally highly doubtful anyone else will ever invest enough time into another arm9 exploit, and ReiNAND flat out said they're waiting for GW. From GWs standpoint, there's no winning move between somehow obtaining keys (if they can) or a new arm9 exploit. Either will be stolen. In any case, this thread isn't the place for discussing that.

I appreciate your feedback and i do think your a nice and likable character. As i said though we all do what we do and that's our business at the end of the day. But i have zero doubt from the videos, the releases, time frames and other factors, in my observation some on your team have used pirated material for whatever purpose ( i assume testing, etc).

I don't care about piracy in a morality and integrity stance regarding others, unless i do it which rests on my conscience. To hold a stance though firmly in morality and integrity on the issue and then do it yourself is a oxymoron. On top, lying to your mates and community to support a stance deemed based on morals and integrity is clearly showing no integrity at all. Especially seeing you have made it clear before your own personal stance is quite neutral.

Hey man, there is no hate. But there is no need for lowering yourself either for false justifications on hypocritical ideals that aren't really your own.

The mistake made long ago was trying a moral high ground stance in excusing (not by you personally) when the truth would have sufficed. Being in a group doesn't cost anyone their own or imply broad unanimity. Your a good coder and seem like pretty cool person with your ego in check. Don't comprise that for others. Anyway , enough from me, for good on this, i'm sure you know where i'm coming from.

Actually updating killed the FBI loader over the health&safety app in emuNAND. I can no longer use it to install .cia in emuNAND. When I run FBI injector through RXtools it says it has completed but it's just the regular health&safety app when I click on it in emuNAND.

I know you suggested Devmenu to install .cia but I chose FBI loader since it came packaged with RXtools and I didn't have a lot of time. It's not a big deal since I have ~20 games to play while I am out of town which should keep me busy. When I am back home I will try another method to install .cia

[Edit: Nvm, I didn't realize that updating emuNAND to fw 9.9 changed the TMD from v1026 to v2051 so I need to re-install the FBI loader over the h&s app. Hence why I was getting an error. It should be fine.]

Okay. I think updating would rewrite the H&S app, so all you would have to do is redo it. :P

You can run BigBlueMenu to install CIAs directly, I don't think you need FBI. That is for people without a Gateway or Gateway clone.
