Hello, it's been days that I'm trying to update my Wii U without success, and it looks like the reason is related to the vWii.
I read in the forum that I should reinstall a clean copy of IOS 53 rev 5919. The problem is I can't find it anywhere.
Would someone be so kind to point me to it? I really really want to use my online functionalities again.

You read in the forum that the person had problem with HIS version of IOS53.

IOS53 is not responsible to YOUR issue.
You need to find which IOS is the problem. Not always IOS53.
every person has a different problem. don't just think that because someone posted that IOS53 fixed his issue that this is the same issue you have.

Which IOS did you patch or replaced since you hacked your vWii ?
Reinstall a clean IOS of that patched IOS.

And you can't find it anywhere, because it's illegal to share it.
You can't ask users to send or link to files created by nintendo.

I see, I apologise for violating the rules.
But I don't know how to find the culprit. I could swear I haven't touched the vWii for a long time (and I updated to 5.0.0 just fine at the time). Is there any program or method that can help me with the research?

You can start by running syscheck HDE (in my signature).
It will gives you all the detected versions of the installed IOS.

You compare the version to expected vWii version. If there's an old one it's not official (probably a Wii IOS installed in vWii place).

If all IOS version are fine, you need to check the content of the IOS (tmd, ticket, etc.) but it's harder. I don't remember if Syscheck added this verification.
We will have to ask to JoostinOnline if your first step is not enough.

yes, the versions are fine.
Maybe one of the IOS is fakesigned.

You could check it manually.
Extract the IOS 9-80 (for example using Yet another blue dump mod) to Wad, and open each Wad in hex editor. Search for "GottaGetSomeBeer" string.
If you find that string, it's a fakesigned IOS, you probably reinstalled that IOS after repacking it to Wad file from a NAND dump.

start by the common IOSes (IOS58, 57, 56, 36, 80, 62, 53, and the others)

JoostinOnline : is your syscheck reporting fake signed tickets?
that would be a good addition for vWii users who can't update their WiiU.

I'm not being able to extract the IOSs with YABDM: no matter what IOS version I use, I keep getting the "Exception (DSI) occurred!"...

EDIT: It seems like I managed to find an IOS that worked, but I'm not sure: the only thing YABDM tells me is that it will use the SD as storage device, but I cannot find anything new on the card.

I've thought about adding it. I've got another update to release first though.

The easiest way to check for a modified IOS (including a fakesigned ticket) is to run the HackMii installer, then look at the log it generates. Any title with an asterisk next to it is modified in some way.

Won't the installer overwrite my existent Homebrew Channel?

This is the log:

Does this mean I have to reinstall those IOSs with asterisks? I didn't know a IOS 0 existed. I'm a bit lost :(

IOS above slot 200 are custom IOS and will always have a fake tickets.
It doesn't block HBC installation or WiiU update.

I don't know about your IOS 0, could it be an empty folder? or a copy of a cIOS in a wrong folder, installation went bad?
Don't do a thing for the moment, we should wait for other user's knowledge and ideas.

and like you see, you didn't need IOS53. Every users have different issues, don't do the same thing because it fixed someone else issue.
If a user would have sent you his own (and bad) copy of that IOS and you installed it, you would have ended with a corrupted one for real. checking current state before acting is always advised.

I edited the thread's title, and moved it to WiiU hacking forum.
It could help more users.

I've searched in the forum, and it has been suggested to use "Any Title Manager" to remove the IOS0. The problem is, I cannot load "Wii Mod" (my Wii U freezes with a black screen), so I don't know what to do :( (and it seems the responsible for the IOS0 could be a modded version of "Any Title Deleter" I used a long time ago).

It gives me Error 162-3006.

I'm willing to completely erase and reinstall the vWii if necessary, but I'd like to avoid that.
EDIT: Also, if this will result necessary, I was wondering what is the best way to proceed. I'm reading in various threads that removing and/or reinstalling the vWii is not easy task. Any suggestion to proceed?

If it is too much trouble finding the culprit I'll delete everything and start over, but I'd like to ask the safest way to do so.

I'm trying installing vIOS62, but MMM gives me Error -1017, and YAWMM the "Exception DSI occurred" when I open the wad folder...
For every step forward, a new obstacle. Seriously, as long as I can save my progress in Riivolution, I'm more than willing to erase and reinstall everything.

I don't think formatting will help. Are you using IOS236 to install the wad (that you didn't get from me

).
