I cannot connect to the Internet with my Wii. When I perform a connection test in the System Menu Settings > Internet, it fails consistently with “Error Code: 109234 There is a problem with the WiiConnect24 service. Please try again later.” As a result, no homebrew can either (Priiloader, HBC, WiiFlow, etc.).

The only reference to Error Code: 109234 that I found is this one about Wiimmfi and Nintendo WFC error codes, and even in the case it is relevant at all, I cannot make much sense out of it:

Error 109234: Attempted RegisterID, but a Wii number was not yet generated.

This happens on a just modded Wii that had never been modded before. It is a European Wii which already had 4.3E. I formatted it before modding. I did so with ModMii, using Wilbrand, with the option to reinstall 4.3E, just to be sure. The only non-standard settings, if you may say so, that I chose was to only install the Mii Channel and left the others channels off. I presumed (mistakenly I saw later) that by excluding the rest (Photo, Internet, Wether, News, Wii Speak) they would not appear anymore on the System Menu, which seemed handy since I will not use them. Specifically, the generated ModMii_Wizard_Guide.html file states:

This guide was generated using the following parameters:
  • Install and\or update all recommended softmods
  • Current System Menu is 4.3E
  • Desired System Menu is 4.3E
  • Install Mii Channel
  • Update active IOSs (can be disabled in options)
  • Do not Install a cMIOS (can be enabled in options)
  • Install a USB-Loader Forwarder Channel (can be disabled in options)
I then followed the guide: installing HBC & Bootmii as Boot2, backing up the NAND, installing a patched IOS236, Priiloader, listed WADS, etc.

Anybody can point me to a solution?

Edit: Ouch! I guess this should have gone to the Hacking subforum. My appologies. I would appreciate if a moderator moved it there.

The error is apparently neither due to not having installed the rest of the channels, since I redid the whole mod with them on this time just in case, and the result is the same, nor due to my internet connection setup, since besides using my router's WiFi I also I tried connecting it to my cellular connection using my cell phone as a WiFi hotspot and, again, nothing changed. I do not know what else to try…

Whatever the issue was, I presumed the Wii was lying and that while it could connect to the internet (my router was revealing that the Wii was successfully sending and receiving traffic) maybe it was not being able to ping Nintendo WiiConnect24's server or something like that. And if the test does not succeed, one cannot set such connection as the default active one.

So I resorted to https://wiibrew.org/wiki/Offline_Network_Enabler, enabled the configured wifi connection with it and now homebrew apps can access the internet just fine. So problem solved.
