I find games which require fast reactions and precise inputs to be harder in handheld mode. The Pro Controller just feels more comfortable than any form of the JoyCons and gives me more control over what I'm doing. Take Mario Kario 8 at 200cc and the more challenging combat sections of Tears of the Kingdom for example.

I had to buy an extra wide controller my whole switch slides into just to play Splatoon in handheld mode with good controls. It lacks Amiibos support, but who cares. It has gyro, turbo, rumble adjustments, and paddle buttons. Also hall sticks and RGB. It does feel weird having my hands so far apart to play though, I can't really get used to it.

Mobapad M6 HD has NFC, HD rumble, turbo, mechanical buttons, interchangeable buttons, gyro... it feels great in my large hands. Comes in black or white.

It IS possible to play difficult games in handheld mode (that's how I beat Celeste), but if you want a pro controller, I'd recommend getting a clip-on controller bracket.
