Ok I Haven't Really Looked Around but I want a modchip im bad at leaving cds everywhere and getting scratch and wanting make backups. I read online and read somewhere you can't order or buy if you live in the US, heck its my own games is that right? well can i order a modchip or is that a NO NO by law? i seen on tv people getting busted by mp3s and satellites and i kinda don't want a knock at the door

i believe modchips are not "illegal" in some places, its what there used for that is. you wont get busted for buying one. the people who sell them can get busted tho. i remeber when police were in my home i had about 100 copy DVDs in cases on the shelf, and they didnt say anything. as long as you dont go to the pigs and say i brought a modchip to play copies you should be cool

it is not illegal to mod a wii (soft or hard)
what is illegal is to download games and play the backups of games that you dont have

The only illegal thing about this whole deal of modding is the distribution of the games, sold or uploaded, buying/making a modchip can't get you in troubles by any reason, unless it is made to hijack FBI conections or something like that, I can't really imagine the NISAN owners sueing the fast and furious movie producers because they modified a NISAN car....!!!

Quite well known around the northern MN region of the US. In fact it's pretty well know all around the US I've seen it on TV so it can't be that uncommon.

It all depends. Check what you serial number is on the back of the console and see what chipset it has.

Word to the wise, never say it around them.

As far as the whole legality issue, in the US, the DMCA specifically makes it illegal to manufacture, distribute or use anything that can circumvent copy protection. Twist it any way you want, modchips fall into this category. Now whether anybody has enough time and resources to go busting every person that gets a modchip is a different story. If you're not distributing them, you really don't have anything to worry about.

Technology is advancing so quickly. It used to be people were just getting busted for illegally downloading MP3s, but now they're actually being busted by the very MP3s they've downloaded? That's crazy. And Satellites? Really all I can say about those is Can I A Satellite?...you be the judge.

IT IS ILLEGAL IN THE USE TO SOFT MOD OR MODCHIP OR ANYWAY SO YOU CAN PLAY PIRATED MATERIAL IS ILLEGAL CALL THE FBI THEY WILL TELL YOU

it's illegal to sell or distribute your copy or use copy of something that you dont have the original.
here, in usa, china and even peru ... EVERYWERE
making up laws helps no one
