I'm looking to buy 2 flashcarts and I was looking at the R4DS and Acecart. I'm looking for cheap ones so that is why I chose these two but I'm having trouble deciding which to get. I hear people saying it is hard to find a legit R4 and the Acecart has some sort of proprietary file system but it supports SDHC cards. Can anyone give me an opinion on which to get or if there is a better flashcart out there?

Your right, it is hard to find a legit R4. I would get an acekard2. it is one of the best flashcards on the market. It is simple to use. But it has no extra features.(ex. RTS,RTG) If you want extra features get a Supercard DS one(or i version).

OK from personal experience id really steer towards the EDGE as it is one reliable flash cart solid build, cool front graphics, great rom compatibility and due to the fact it was copied of the cyclo ds its firmware is usually released soon after team cyclops releases theres
p.s if you mind the wait get it from deal extreme for about $15 which is a great price heres a link to the official GBATEMP review

Get the R4 its cheap and runs every Rom fine with YSmenu.
Then you haven't tried to run Naruto Shippuden: Ninja Council 4, Tropix or Star Wars Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance.

EDIT: Note to moderators - Is there any chance of making it against forum rules to recommend R4 cards to other users?

Maybe the those games will work fine later with R4 with a firmware update.
A firmware update from whom exactly? Development for the DSTT firmware (the backbone of YSMenu) seems to be dead and YSMenu updates deal only with functionality, NOT ROM compatibility. As for an official R4 firmware update... that will be on the day Satan goes to work on ice skates.

Sure, most games can be made to work on R4 cards using custom firmwares, patches and the occasional cheat code (I am an R4 user myself) but if you are recommending a card to a new user would it not be better to recommend a card that works straight out of the box? A card with a real support team? A card that has SDHC support? Real R4 cards have none of these features. And the fakes are even worse...

The top 3 carts right now are M3 Real, Acekard 2, and Cyclo DS.

But that's only for DSL, for DSi it's probably:

AK2i, iTouch2, and the upcoming M3 Reali or SCDS1i.

But never get any flashcart with the name R4 in it.

No body's recomending the Supercard brand. I mean its got its problems, but it's a reliable card brand with a great team behind it.

Because the menu is very slow and a little outdated.

QUOTE(chao1212 @ Jun 8 2009, 08:30 PM) wait and buy the new one that has a built in processor

That one won't have rom playing capabilities, only media and homebrew.

Ninja Council 4 is a bad dump.

Get an Acekard 2i, that way you get an awesome, cheap card and if you ever get a DSi you will be covered (it's only a bit more expensive than the AK2.1)
