A friend of mine has offered to give me his old PSP-3000 as he has decided against playing games anymore. The only issue is that it has a broken UMD drive. Would that in any way inhibit me from running games from a memory card on a CFW?

I've used the UMD drive on my 2000 a few times to dump games, other than that nothing. The current hacks are all software and require a memory stick, no games.
Yea it's like when you have a wii and want to play games even if it has a broken drive - it' still works (of course in the wii's case, you would need an HDD)

I don't have a wii u anymore to test it myself, but if homebrews are not visible on the wii u menu I think you can press L + R + minus to open the plugin menu, there should be an option called "homebrews on wii u menu" or something similar -

Or when your player dies, you can say in code, if enemy exists, do nothing, but if enemy does not exist, then create enemy at certain spot. (This would be a pain tho for lots of emeies)+1 -

Easiest, simple way would be just restart scene, but player would restart from beginning.
