The reason I asked is because if it's legit, it would have matched your region. Seeing as you are a US Wii, I looked and saw only one torrent available. It was NTSC. Me = confused. O.o

i was actually thinking that, why would a US game update brick a US wii, sounds to me like it isnt a US wii and doesnt want ppl to think he's pirating(99% of GBATemp pirate in some way)

That's what I'm wondering...someone mentioned the new stub IOSes, but that doesn't make sense as the issue either since the disk also would contain a current System Menu on it (or at least a semi-current one and the IOS that it needs).

If I were still using disc media and wanted to be sure of not catching one of those updates, I would simply scrub out the update from the ISO before burning. Easy way to do it? Use WBFS manager to sent the ISO to a WBFS partition, then extract to back to your drive. The manager does the scrubbing, and the resulting ISO that you transfer back over to your drive will be scrubbed and pretty much safe from this.

i think the only solution for a full brick is to either send it to ninty, or using a modchip and an autoboot game using the recovery mode to install a higher sysmenu

Yep, try Savemiifrii with a modchip lol.

And patching an update is easy.

Use Wiu 1.0, which patches the update and the region if you wish, easy to do.

damn, downloading 4.3gb of data just to brick your wii, aha.

this may be off topic but what insturments do you play and what diffuctily?

What about you?

THERE WAS A WARNING RECENTLY THAT STATED IF YOU EVER DOWNGRADED YOUR WII dont upgrade to 3.4 from a disk or you risk bricking
wink.gif
could this be the case?

Brick Warning! Those with/without modchips, Check your IOS listing!
Check the IOS listing in your wii, below program will create a titles.txt file on root sd:/ of your sd card.

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Title_Lister

If you're IOS50 is listed with version number v5120 then full bricking your wii is just a matter of updating your wii with a game disc that has a 3.4 update...

Recent games mostly contain carry a 3.4 update and the IOS 50 in the update partition of those disks are v4889... Upon update from a game disc, the system will skip the IOS50 installation and hence you'll be left with a thrash (mothballed stub) IOS50 and a 3.4 menu, the result? A full brick!

So in short, never update from a game disk containing 3.4 update if you have this thrash IOS50 installed (IOS50 v5120).

If you have been sniffing/snorting horse-manure, and have retardedly "Downgraded" the System Menu from either 4.0/4.1 to 3.2, update from a disk with a 3.4 update as above states, you're wii is a NICE-WII-BRICKED-SHAPED-WII.
(The only way to recover is bootmii as boot2, or a nand flash programmer but you will of had to have backed up your'e wii's keys).

Most of this guide is via I.R.on aka WiiCrazy, so big thanx to him for that!

as already said, you now have a full brick.

gh5 comes with the 3.4 system menu, and an updated ios56.

when you upgraded to system menu 4, it turned ios50 into a stub ios. then you downgraded to 3.2, and ios50 was left as a stub, as it isnt needed by system menu 3.2. then you installed the update on the gh5 disk, which was 3.4. when the update ran, it saw you had a newer ios50 than on the disk, so it skipped installing the old one. unfortunantly for you, the version you have is a stub ios, hence the system menu cant load, hence why you now have a nice white brick.

yet another case of why downgrading is retarded.

you should have had some form of protection from this, be it good brick protection (bootmii as boot2 is the best, preloader wont help this form of brick), or blocking updates(preloader or startpatch can help with this, as can a decent modchip that blocks updates), or simply brick blocking the disk itself.

I thought Wiikey had a magical feature that would make disc updates only update the Wii with whatever the hell it needed to run the game. >_>
And, yeah I know I should have installed bootmii.
Now I have a question. Can SaveMii unbrick my Wii?

Of course not, you have no functioning system menu.

SaveMii only works if your System Menu is working. If you get the "System Files are Corrupt" message, it means the system menu is still intact and SaveMii will work.

Is there any good reason why anyone would be NOT on 4.1 at this point ?

Not sure I understand why people are still on 3.2 and 3.4

Ah, right, that makes sense. I forgot about the IOS version numbers.

with TBR there isnt a need to downgrade anymore anyway, 4.0-4.1 are also more stable so why not update? what does 3.2 have to offer?

Wouldn't it make sense to run DOP immediately after downgrading to 3.2, and install the older version of IOS50, that way if ever by mistake do a disc update to 3.4 it wont be an issue, maybe all of the tutorials out there should have that step added if they contain downgrading to 3.2.
