Let me tell you guys the whole story.

Basically, OG made some brick code, threw it into an NSP and said "anyone wanna post this on DU?" I did. It was funny. But you know what isn't funny? Having your switch permanently bricked because you forgot to make a nand backup. Yes part of it was my fault, and part of it was OG's fault, but you have to remember, none of you made a NAND backup. I don't care at this point if my credibility or my reputation goes down the drain, I just needed you to know the truth. Of course some of it was mine and OG's fault. But some of it was yours too.

So you're basically using the same argument as when people did the recent Windows 10 update that deleted save files, and it was their fault for not creating a backup?

Incredibly scummy thing to do, though I at least give you some credit for owning up to it

Now would be a good time for developers of title installers to check the NSP permission bits before installing, and warn the user if any dangerous bits are set.

https://switchbrew.org/wiki/NPDM
https://switchbrew.org/wiki/Filesystem_services#Permissions

In particular, if bit 63 in the permissions bitmask is set, the application has full access to everything.
This is awesome but unfortunately this malicious code also works on xci files so it's a partial fix.

Well they don't seem to grasp how serious this could be, nor do they seem to give a shit. If anyone lives in the states who was affected by this then you could go to the police, their identities are apparently known, spreading a computer virus with malicious intent is illegal and they've admitted to it several times in several places. Wonder if they would continue to be so apathetic about the damage they caused if the police got involved.

Wow that Jellyperson is TRASH...and complete 100% scum. It doesn't matter where you posted the brick code NSP
point is you posted it with the full intent on bricking peoples console. That was supposed to be "funny"? -____- I would say so much more if it weren't for the fear of a ban. No I didn't install it (thank god) but it SUCKS for the people that did; it really F'N sucks.

I saw the damn thread you posted on D-U (Let's go pikachu NSP) and I commented immediately trying to let other guys know it was a FAKE up until the mods (probs mastershoes OR faith genesis raven) deleted the thread. Then you had your little buddy jil.10/100/1000 spam/troll for a day and half then spread that brick code nsp too up until the punk was banned/IP banned.

I want my money back nintendo will not repair my system now, it's been just 2 months over my
Guarantee period.

Now i have to buy a new switch which will probably be patched so i wasted my SX OS license as well.

All thanks to some children who thought it is funny.

I really want my money back

This is a very weird concept of fun you have there, mate. "Oh, look, lets destroy 200$ worth of hardware, wouldn't that just be hilarious!"
Let me tell you - it is not. You're playing with deceivable people who just wanted the new Pokemon game for free, and now trashed a lot of consoles. Proud of yourself?

Hold up. Let me see if I get it correct.

So two individuals (one even claimed that he's just entered "high school" in a blogpost in gbatemp), who are friends to each another, actually wrote a full blown malicious code (which implies that they're more than just your average joe script kiddies), distributed it around, got found out, and now they're "apologizing"?

I find it... weird, and wrong. So many levels of wrong, and so many red flags that the thread hasn't really touched upon.

I, I... I can't say stuffs like "these two ought to be XXX" because I just find the actions of these two people to be un-apologetic, and they aren't even showing remorse. It is like these two are pure psychopaths, (minus the physical violence).

I mean, two people wrote a malicious set of codes / instructions and passes it as a joke? Not once, and probably more than twice now?

Is nobody feeling aghast and afraid of these two, after what they've done?

of course they didn't write it. There's brickcode openly flying around at the git sites, just have to compile a nsp out of it, name if WHATEVER_GAME_EVERYONE_WANTS.nsp and post it on the usual sites... you'll get a fine number of bricks until anyone figures out that it was brick code and warns everyone else. Same that happened with the fake cracked SX Os, that payload was openly available on gitlab (until I reported it and the account was terminated)

Even then, compiling it would take effort. Who would have thought that packing such malicious things is a joke, or even a funny thing, and then goes around "its your fault! ha ha ha its a prank!" ? Every step of the way breathes malicious-ness, and it chills me (in a bad way).

Well, basically it is a prank. Just not a very good one, as it harmed people's wallets.

For somebody that publicly states that he's similar to Elliot Rogers after reading his manifesto, that's going beyond "pranks". Pranks are harmless. This is not harmless.

Okey my two cents.

1) It was shitty for them to do, what have happend has now happened.
2) Always and ALWAYS have a NAND Backup, lesson learned for some, maybe a good info for some new people.
3) Don't run unverified stuff? You're in a grey area already. So by playing warez you always put yourself at risk. This time you got burned. This why if always kept to Scene releases when I pirated back in the day.
4) Doxxing is NEVER OKEY. For anyone who ask for it, I will give out warnings. That is unacceptable!

I can't feel empathy for either sides of the drama right now.
Both sides rub me the wrong way, one for being clearly a**h**** and the other for blaming anyone but themselves that they couldn't bother reading the stickies before pirating backuping their game.

In a way, it will help Nintendo reaching their 20 million target...
Was that too much? xD

but this doesn't justify their actions, the way i'm feeling right now I honestly hope they take responsibility for their actions.

Sleep well mate :P

Doxing is not any better than what these guys did. I'd say you're asking for something worse to happen then the loss of a $300 investment. If the personal info did get out, and someone did something seriously stupid and lives were lost would you feel good about that? Would you sleep well?

I'd urge anyone with details pertaining to any potential crime report to the proper authorities, and not to an angry mob.

well as far as metroid prime 4 is concerned, the next system probably is similar enough to the current gen they can probably easily just slap it onto a next gen cart and call it good :P
