Gaming [botw] activating chamber of death under Akkla Labrynith?

Does anyone know what causes the guardians to activate in the chamber where the travel medallion is? I was able to get in there after bypassing the maze

Used revali's gale to hop over top it towards the caged in shrine, then dropped down into the southwest "dead end" which had a short maze with a electric sword and some bramble you had to burn to climb up

and once I opened the grate by completing the shrine I was able to jump down into the chamber, only to be completely ignored as I followed the wall to the chest. I didn't stick around to see if they would wake, but I'm genuinely curious as to what wakes them, or if I just encountered a glitch?

They activate after you open the chest in the center of the room.
