What's the point of making Video Games to begin with?
and you know what I mean :P
For publishers: Money
For developers: There's a multitude of reasons.

Regardless, in either scenario, designing a game that won't be feasible on hardware for a while doesn't make sense. I mean, sooner or later I'll get my quad-HD space simulator but there's no reason to start work on it now.

Well it was officially announced a while ago and a few trailers have been released, but development has been pushed a lot. I'm guessing Rayman Origins pushed it back and I'm wondering if Rayman Legends will as well.

I probably chose the wrong words there. While Ancel has been going on about it over the years, the game seems to have received very little in the way of acknowledgement from Ubisoft. It's never felt, from the years in development, that Ubisoft have taken the game/project seriously, just letting Ancel [and a small team] potter around with it as long as it doesn't get in the may of more.. profitable projects.

Time will tell I suppose, but fingers crossed.

I guess you really think something like a quad-space HD generator would actually take about a year or two don't you? Most really big games we see now have been worked on prior to that generation, and they aren't half of what your describing. I wouldn't be suprised in Ninty or some big third party (like capcom, 2K or something) isn't working on a project that could run next generation. And I do mean, NEXT not this gen.

Defintely one of my most anticipated titles. In my opinion the original was underrated (and yes, I know the scores it got :P). Amazing game.

I don't mind them taking their time with this, since the expectations are very high! Also I really hope they'll have the same voiceactors, since I thought that aspect was perfect.

Also I remeber the original BG&E was one of the very first game to only support widescreen. It defintely was ahead of its time!

They already said like a year ago that the current consoles weren't good enough to make beyond good and evil 2, so I don't see why this is news since it was expected to be on the next generation anyway.

I don't think it really works that way. As hardware evolves, software development tools evolve as well. Look at Duke Nukem Forever. Modern game, 10+ years in the making. Still doesn't look as good as most modern games, and the design is dated as well.

It's like saying that somebody should have started working on Adobe Photoshop, or Microsoft Office back before C was invented. Would Photoshop be a better product today, if written in the 1940's, in assembly? :P

The latter.
Well, Ubisoft released the original for the 3 main consoles and PC, plus ACIII has been confirmed for Wii U, so I think it's almost certainly a "yes" for Wii U. As for the others, I guess it's a matter of how much time there is between the BG&E2 release and the other next gen consoles' releases.

I still need to play the original. I've wanted to since it came out, but never got around to picking up a copy.

There's an NDA with Wii U developers that's supposed to end in E3. That's why we haven't got any Wii U game announcements (except for a few rare things but those are just glitches in the matrix).

In that case they'd probably say "next gen console" and not "next gen consoles".

The odds of this being exclusive to anything is pretty silm honestly. The original is a multiplat game originally and its been ported to multiple platforms as well (see BG&E HD).

The latter.

If it was gonna be a Wii U exclusive they would've just said that. Saying "next gen consoles" implies it'll be released on consoles we don't know about yet.

Well I didn't mean exclusive to the Wii U. I was talking about the game being released on the Wii U along with other next-gen platforms and the PC.

Oh, that's certainly not out of the question considering the original was on the Gamecube as well as your aforementioned Ubisoft support of the system.

Sorry, I thought you meant that you were wondering if it was gonna be Wii U exclusive.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
