Lol, I don't see myself as someone with "crazy amounts of knowledge" at all. Maybe a little above average at most

Also, a forum is for discussion, there wasn't anything disrespectful in your post.

To get back on the Virginizing, it's simply not worth doing it, period (there is a reason I let people scroll all the way down on the Virginize guide

surely by updating my firmware ex 4.1 to either 4.2 or even 4.3 via nusad is of little/no extra benefit ? i,m softmodded on 4.1 4 a while now and afraid that by doing so will result in problems 4 me like having conflicting wada, apps with out of date wads, less brick prot with my black/d-32 wii? is it safer and wiser 2 stay on 4.1 please ?
finally, i av been asked to s/mod a 4.1e white wii - similar question ... should i not mod it via nusad and keep the f/w at 4.1 xflak?
last q - why no system menu wad in wad list after running the nusad wizard i.e. 450.wad for 4.1e?
small donation on the way xflak - tks in advance

@mayu, 4.3 offers nothing over 4.1 or 4.2, and 4.3 kills the bannerbomb exploit, making it harder to rehack in the event of stupid mistakes (sometimes impossible depending on the region and what u have installed). If you absolutely have to be on the latest firmware, it is safe to upgrade to 4.3 using NUSAD, I've taken great care to make sure the process is safe... but if u were to make a stupid mistake at any point even AFTER finishing the mod, like format your wii's memory, and uninstall priiloader, u will not be able to rehack 4.3J/K Wii's (without bootmii @ boot2, which can potentially also be lost due to official ninty update), and 4.3U/E wii's will need a disc to rehack the Wii. Basically, 4.2 is safer to be on, but as long as u follow the instructions closely, and don't make any stupid mistakes u can go to 4.3 and keep softmods safely. I hope that answers your question.

@RCO2000, I answered your question about the SM Wad not being downloaded already HERE, maybe u missed it by accident.

You should just stay on 4.1, no point in changing. Using the download wizard, tell it your Wii is a virgin (even if its not), that u are starting on 4.1E and want to finish on 4.1E, and say yes to extra brick protection. Now u can follow the EXACT same guide to rehack your 4.1E Wii (to upgrade your softmods) AND to hack your friends virgin 4.1E. Read/follow the instructions carefully, as long as u do exactly what it says, both wii's will be perfectly softmodded

I hope that answers your question! Thx for the donation, PM me after u send it so I can let u in on NUSAD's easter egg!

I am unable to downgrade my IOS15. Under "Install & Patch IOS36" I receive the error message of:

ERROR: ES_AddTitleStart (-1035)
Error setting version to 0
ERROR (-1035): Downgrading

I loaded IOS15 to see what version it is and it says v1031. No idea what is going on as this is a buddy's Wii.

I tried using the "U" download option in NUS to no prevail.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

u have to follow the instructions for to using Trucha Bug Restorer on 4.3 wii's (IOS15v1031 is the version found on 4.3 Wii's). What firmware is this Wii?

If its 4.3 then u r following instructions wrong...

if its not 4.3, then u need to use the 4.3 method of installing a patched IOS. If you are NOT on 4.3, copy and paste the text from the spoiler below into a file called "Wizard_Settings.bat", and save it in the same folder as nus auto downloader.exe, then start the download wizard and load the settings (it will say u are on 4.3U going to 4.3U, but just ignore it, cuz we only care about the trucha bug restorer step). Then use those files/guide in place of the "Install & Patch IOS36" step in your current guide.

Ok, thanks for the info, XFlak. Now, another question: is it true that multiple nand restoring via bootmii can affect your nand?

Ooops, apologies, I missed your earlier reply!

Thanks for the advice.
Just clear up something for me please........
If I use nusad on my existing wii by telling it it is a virgin (and it is not), do I need to format my existing SD card which has all my apps, files & wads or is it safe to download the wizard's files on top of the existing files in my SD card i.e. will it automatically copy & replace the existing files?

Donation sent to xflak...Thanks, I love Easter eggs, LOL

@mayu,
if u only have bootmii as IOS, multiple nand restores is not a great idea to begin with.

I have bootmii@boot2, and I have prolly done 20-40 nand restores without ever a single issue... so I personally think its not a problem, but others may have had other experiences

@RCO2000
Its safe to overwrite files as long as u are aware that wads u had in the wad folder before using NUSAD will still be there, and u shouldn't install/uninstall those files during the NUSAD guides (or u could take advantage of the option to rename the wad folders during the wizard)

Thx again for the donation! And I totally agree with u, the Easter Egg is is soooooo awesome, I use it every time I start NUSAD

Thank you very much for the custom BAT file and that portion of the guide worked.

EDIT: I had a problem installing any cIOS but after I used your additional step, I installed all the remaining WADs then repatched IOS36 and then the cIOS files installed fine. Now let's see if any homebrew installs.

Thank you again for problem solving.

Hey XFlak!

Had an issue with a virgin 4.1 Wii today.

Your latest NUSAD (4.1.9) has an updated BootMii with a bug!

In my case, I could not perform a NAND backup with BackupMii, I got an error (ECC Failure (unrecoverable) for page ..), and then BootMii locked up the Wii.

Had to fallback to an older version of BootMii to perform the NAND backup.

More info on the lockup here (only difference was that mine was for page 14):

http://bugs.hackmii.com/index.php?do=details&task_id=347
http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/6285/100729215050.jpg

Maybe good if you do a fallback to an earlier version of BootMii to stop more people from getting stuck there....

1st off, I just want to highlight that this is NOT a NUSAD bug, it is a BootMii bug, and the responsibility lies with Team Twiizers to fix it (if they so choose to do, which I'm sure they will eventually)

Unfortunately, NUSAD will forever ONLY download the LATEST hackmii installer release. This isn't that huge a deal, because the latest is usually the best, and I'm sure TT will release an even newer and better one soon (which hopefully solves your rare problem).

Unlike most other Wii hacking guides, NUSAD is 100% legal, and Team Twizzers does not host older versions of their hackmii installer on their site, and their site is the only legal place to get these files.

so basically, if you currently download any hackmii installer below v0.7, then you got it illegally from some other source... and I'm not willing to have NUSAD do anything illegal. So that's why NUSAD will only provide the most recent hackmii installer release.

edit: It sucks you had problems making a nand backup, but you fall into a small percentage of people who are having problems with it. For most people, including myself, it works fine.

edit2: if anyone can find older versions of the hackmii installer hosted somewhere on the bootmii website, please let me know. This is the only way NUSAD will EVER support downloading a hackmii installer that is not the most recent release.

Never said it was a bug in NUSAD, sorry if that was not clear enough....

The way I solved it was with a BootMii downloaded with an earlier version of NUSAD that I had saved, so that should be OK from a legal perspective.

Did not realise BootMii did not have earlier versions on their page, that is a bummer, and obviously not your fault!

Thanks again for an excellent NUS autodownloader!

No worries! You made it clear, I just wanted to highlight that for anyone else reading
biggrin.gif

And yes, it is totally legal to use an older hackmii installer that u have saved elsewhere... in fact, I doubt u will get in trouble for downloading their files from some other source, it is the people supplying the files that have to worry (although I still discourage people from downloading it from ANY other source).

Your welcome! I can't wait to release NUSAD v4.20!
biggrin.gif
Surprisingly... I think it's almost ready for release! I just gotta write some instructions and check it for any bugs. But this should be the last major update for NUSAD... after this, most of the work going into NUSAD will be to keep up with IOSs, cIOSs, and other apps.

I'm almost sad that I have run out of NEW ideas for NUSAD... I truly enjoy adding new features to it. So if you (or anyone) has an idea of something they would like to see added to NUSAD, let me know!

OK - I've got a small problem which I'm 99.9% sure it's NOT to do with NUSAD, but I just want to check up on something first
I've softmodded my 4.2E Wii using 4.1.6 of NUSAD, I've also got 'USB Support' (also using NUSAD)

Since then I've updated the Homebrew Channel, WiiMC & Homebrew Browser (when told by the programs) & I've changed from 'Configurable USB' to 'WiiFlow' as my USB backup Launcher

I also TRIED to update something else (ios249 I think) manually - but I started having trouble with my USB backup's freezing on me while playing,
So used BootMii to reload my backup I made when I first used NUSAD
(but stupid me - forgot to back up my Saves first... DAM!!!! - luckily I hadn't progress too far into my games)

Now the games don't freeze when playing BUT......

...for some unknown reasons whenever I use MMM to install any Game Channels made By 'CRAP' - it 'fails' until I REDO the 'Install ios36' option.
I'm having to keep doing this, & I think it's happening if I turn off or remove the SD card (not sure which is actually causing the problem though)
I'm thinking of re-softmodding my Wii with the latest NUSAD, to hopefully cure my little problem
- BUT not 100% on which option to choose first

Should I use the 'Virgin Wii' option & allow NUSAD to download all the latest ios etc & re-do all the steps again
OR
Should I use the other 'pre-Softmodded' option instead ??

Will doing the 'Virgin' route cause any problems on an already softmodded Wii ???

If this is your only problem, I suspect you are forgetting to reload the IOS when u start MMM. When you start it from the HBC, its loaded using IOS61, which cannot be used to install non-fakesigned content (like CRAP channels). You have to go down to the very last line in MMM's list and reload IOS36 or 249 or something. Then u can install WADs using MMM's wad manager. The reason why 'Install a patched IOS36' "fixes" the problem for you, is because I'm pretty sure after you finish installing a patched IOS36, MMM automatically reloads to use IOS36. So you don't need to keep reinstalling it, just load it
biggrin.gif

Alternatively, you can use NUSAD to create a mmmconfig file, which will autoload the IOS of your choosing at program startup.

But to answer your question, it is totally safe to repeat the virgin softmod process from the beginning even on a Wii that has already been hacked.

@ChuckBartowski, nice one! I'll have to look into that

Keep the good ideas coming!

Im trying to hack my 4.3U wii, And when I download files through NUSAD [namely 4.2 fw], It says it failed md5 checksum and it skips the download.
I have restarted/unpacked the program multiple times, and it still wont download all the files I have selected.
