Hacking Best practice for preserving Switch 2 exploitability?

So I tried to create manually the album file structure and put some random images there... but it did not trigger the update. So I decided to put the sd card back to switch 1, let it format, take screenshot and then put it into switch 2. It triggered the update.

I actually triggered the updated with a virgin SD card formatted in Exfat. I did not even used it into my switch 1 before

Don't insert it into Switch 1. Insert it into Switch 2.

I have an express card, but when I formatted a standard card to exfat and put into S2, it just said system does not support this card.

You need to go to Settings -> Data Management -> Manage Screenshots and Videos -> Import from a Nintendo Switch microSD Card. Don't insert the card, wait until it tells you to do so.

ive bought 2 consoles (non bundle versions) - left 1 untouched and put in the loft, the 2nd ive got Mario kart physical cart and will keep it as low as possible (until Metroid comes out) with the ExpressSD card patch applied.

Best of both worlds!

Can then sell one when an exploit comes out

The fact that the ROP exploit, though useless to end-user, worked on version 20.1.1 made updating even more compelling, so I decided to go ahead with both.

I also figured it would be smart to regularly test both consoles during the refund window to ensure they're working properly, since they are first-gen launch units.

You have a refund window? I bought mine from GameStop and they were like "the second it leaves this store it is impossible to return it, hope you bought our shitty warranty, gl"

If Nintendo releases a new Switch 2 firmware, and I don't upgrade, if I then install Mario Odyssey, would I still be able to go online to upgrade it without upgrading the system software?

No. Because you must be on whatever current firmware is to access their server.

By that point it's likely a new firmware is out and some are complaining about missing features/fixes so all the more reason for Ninty to do it.

I don't think anyone has tried this yet. You can certainly delay firmware updates, but there will be a persistent nag and eventually a game that requires it. Honestly people are so up in arms about updating clinging to hope that there will be some magical exploit that will likely never materialize. Use your devices and enjoy them as they are, don't make plans based on what might not even happen in the future.
