Who can afford to buy a Switch they can't use? Or a Switch that won't work with future Nintendo exclusives.

Not sure if it fits, but apparently you can enter that special QA test mode on firmware 19.0.0 (launch firmware) from coolboot by holding down some buttons. Not sure which buttons yet.

(EDIT: Saw it on Twitter so take a massive grain of salt)

Yeah, day 1 update + Express seems like the obvious choice. If I was looking for exploits, I'd be searching 20.1.1 since you have so many more areas to attack with S1 game carts and SD Express.

Realistically, I think modchips could be the only way it's exploited fully. But there aren't any games that I HAVE to play on it right now so I'm content just sticking mine back in the box.
Yeah, exactly.

Updated the console to 20.1.1 to use Express mSD and installed the game cart updates of my NS1 games after that I activated the DNS blocker. All done, now just wait.

ive bought 2 consoles (non bundle versions) - left 1 untouched and put in the loft, the 2nd ive got Mario kart physical cart and will keep it as low as possible (until Metroid comes out) with the ExpressSD card patch applied.

Best of both worlds!

Can then sell one when an exploit comes out

Realistically speaking, this is the safest option I'd say. Unfortunately, it's also a very costly one in the short term, so most people aren't gonna be doing that. Good on you though! Hoping this exploit happens sooner rather than later!

I know I'm way late to the party here but I say open it, don't even get it online, if you buy a game with it and it says it has an update piggy backing on it, just say no.

Im still trying to find a S2, everywhere I look they are sold out sadly.

One thing to keep in mind with these consoles being kept offline for the foreseeable future is to charge them periodically. I'd recommend fully shutting it off instead of sleep mode and keeping it around a 50% storage charge so the battery doesn't become damaged and unusable in the long term. I think I've seen elsewhere to also make sure it's charged at least every 6 months.

I've had lithium ion batteries go completely shot having them fully discharged for an extended period and it's a bummer everytime with those generally easier to replace than a Switch 2 battery.

You said a lot of things, but also didn't say anything. Just like that dumbass youtube video. Also mig still doesn't work on the S2.

One update for both.
This needs further confirmation.

Some people have said standard microSD functionality comes with the day one update. This is wrong. I had a separate, online update for it after the day one firmware. There may be some stealth background updating going on, which may apply to express microSD functionality. It may be possible to not have received a stealthy update for express.
