I'm looking for an ATi or NVidia graphic card that can run on Intel pentium 4 .
My current graphic card is ATi Radeon 9550.
How do I know whether it can run on my intel pentium 4 processor or not ?

If you are still using a Pentium 4 machine it is likely that your machine doesn't have PCI-Express (new port needed for new graphics cards). You will likely need to upgrade your motherboard, cpu, and ram before you get another graphics card as the card you have is near the top end of AGP cards (the old port type).

Maybe you could get the AGP version of the 3850, thought it's very expensive since it's normally not AGP. You can also look if there is any AGP version of any of the Nvidia cards from their 8xxx series. But remember to check what power supply you have since you would not be able to upgrade to much with an old power supply.

P4's arent THAT old man >___>

The best one you could get for money is HD4870X2 but seeing as you're content with such a weak proc, you might wanna look at mid-range cards. The 9600GSO is the best if you have a 17-19" monitor. 9800gt for 20-22".

Yeah I game with a P4 2.66Ghz (OC to 3.11Ghz) Northwood (478) and a 8800gts 320mb (G80). I can play all the latest games Fallout 3, Red Alert 3.. but I know the Graphics card is being held back by the P4 and I have to play on medium settings because it can not feed the 8800gts with information quick enough and I get stuttering/slow down of the FPS. (Click my Xfire sig for full system specs). I have a ASrock P4VM900-SATA2 Motherboard which as far as I know is the only P4 socket 478 motherboard that supports PCI-Express.

As the OP said, he can only use AGP cards, not PCI-E.

Then he should totally upgrade the mobo.
Anyways, if you wanna go AGP then the HD3850 is the best choice.
