Each one improves on the previous. OoE is a bit annoying with the damage values. Why the fuck does a bat take away 14 health?

In my opinion, it goes kind of like this: DoS is slightly better than OoE, which is a step up from PoR. They're all excellent games, but this is my own personal ordering.

Dawn of Sorrow is by far the best Castlevania game on the DS. There's just so much more to it than the other two.

I was wondering which Castlevania on the DS is the best, Portrait of Ruin, Dawn of Sorrow or Order of Ecclesia? I found Dawn of Sorrow the most appealing, but i have no idea which one to play

. Any suggestions?
a good analogy would be that portrait of ruin was castlevania 1 and 3. whereas dawn of sorrow was more like simons quest. however. they both suck with comparison to ecclesia. dont really waste your time on those, go for the big bad ecclesia.

if you HAVE to play between the two, dawn of sorrow has more rpg elements where as portrait of ruin has more arcade elements. both are action platformers.

Edit: as difficulty goes its still no megaman..... you only die a lot cause you let yourself, magic tickets are cheap, and leveling helps. most bosses are like easy megaman bosses in that the patterns are easy to dodge when you have them figured out( in megaman they are still hard even if you know how to dodge them).... ( ZX>ZXA IMO)

Dawn of Sorrow was the best, I didn't like Portrait of Ruin one bit, Order of Ecclesia however is great.

I think OoE compares to DoS quite well and only loses by a tad. I'm more entangled in OoE's story, the stages are more fun, and I see a lot of people complaining about the difficulty, but I for one like it. I hate being able to simply power through a game. Because of the difficulty level in this game it makes it more challenging and then the game life just lasts longer. The whole glyph system as opposed to the soul system in DoS was also surprisingly fairly equivalent.

Oh and at the one person who was saying it was impossible to get souls in DoS, all you had to do was trick out Soma with a bunch of luck increasing equips and then go on a killing spree, souls would flood in. Wasn't too difficult at all.

IMHO, order of ecclessia is the best castlevania game ever made after symphony of the night.

Even an executive director of 1UP considers it to be a cross between symphony of the night and castlevania 2: simons quest.

And, to repeat what a member already said...

SHANOA IS HOT!

+1 agree!!!
It was the first Castlevania series I had played and it was always the best one.

OoE is just kind of more difficult to play. Every bosses took me couple times to beat.

yep, i too thik DoS was te best, but please play Aria of Sorrow first if you really wanna e njoy it, i,ve played all castlevania games that were made in english to date, and DoS is, according to me, the best Castlevania game ever made. SotN lost 1st place after DoS. The weapon upgrades, the soul system, the castle, the vilains, the music, everything's great about it, also play SotN (symphony of the Night) if you never played it, it's a great game.

Actually I still remember the 1st stage music in Aria of Sorrow, it's so epic. That was a pity that I didn't beat the game due to the loss of save file.
*sigh It had been 4 years, such a nice GBA memory.

I'd have to say Portrait of Ruin. Loved the music, the fighting style (no gimmicky junk), and the portraits (reminds me of Super Mario 64). By the way, this should be a poll. Perhaps the OGPP?

Before, it was DoS. Excellent story, Game system, and alternate mode(Julius & Friends mode.lol).

But PoR wasn't too far behind with its story(fighting the last-full-non-"corrupted"-belmont wielder of the vampire killer really took the cake for PoR) and innovative tag /support switching + item crash, spells & combo spells.
Richter+Maria mode was also awesome too.

and Currently, Its gotta be OoE.
Excellent story, gamesystem(The Glyphs are really a good innovation, as to you really need good hand-eye skills to be able to maximize switching and using the most suitable combination(non-unision) on various situations. I honestly found it annoying at first, but then realized that it was alot better than just playing an entire CV game using only one weapon/magic type. The quests are also a big plus. not to mention the breath-taking level backgrounds.

I have to agree with that reviewer guy who said It could take over SoTN's throne for being the top CV game.

Its like SoTN + alot of new features + the difficulty of the NES CV games.

LOL to those who say the game is annoying cause they see the game over screen multiple times(heck, it took me 2hrs just figuring out how to kill drac in the shortest time). Its the good'ol difficulty of NES CV games, how a game really should be. If your not up to the challenge, you're not worthy playing this on-going-classic game franchise.

Cheers!

how can people say the story for ecclesia is good? i thought the story was crap and this is a guy who has played castlevania games to death. Even PoR's storyline is better for me than this game, and the ending was just so short and disappointing
