Am I the only one who has had less issues with display drivers on Windows 10 than on Windows 7? My Windows 7 got so FUBAR that it couldn't even enter into screensaver/standby mode without the entire OS going to shit. I had to power cycle my computer every bloody time, and the sad part? I never found any solution on Google or Microsoft's part. I have tested monitors, I have tested HDMI cables and DisplayPort cables, all combinations, and yet at the end, it was all in vain. My Windows 7 is simply beyond saving short of a complete format, but Windows 10 has been the opposite, it actually freaking works with all my drivers. Windows 8 and 8.1 are an abomination.

Oh I know the issue... many TV's implement a type of overscan that kind of blurs the image. Most sets have a setting that gives you 1:1 pixel representation... you have to look for that (many TV's call it something else). basically you turn off the stupid overscan. I have an old Samsung that does not have a setting to turn it off (which is annoying), but all my other TV's have it.

basically this should be turned off for any digital source. The stupid archaic treason its there is to reduce support calls because some digital cable carriers have garbage in 1-2 lines of the image and this remove it at the cost of display accuracy and sharpness.

I would have gone with windows 7 but I couldn't install it because the installer doesn't work with USB 3.0 and I have no disc drive
Come on, you can manually integrate drivers into the installer and the to-be-installed image (as well as buy an USB 2 dvd drive) :)

However, I left my PC on for a bit and when I came back the resolution had gone bad again. Is this some kind of automatic setting? Does it have anything to do with the fact that my monitor turned itself off?
It could be that, when powered off, the computer thinks the screen is disconnected and resets video settings (which shouldn't actually happen on a properly designed system, but...)

I found the solution: use an actual monitor instead of a TV
...on many TVs (consumer products, as opposed to computer products) "proper design" rarely is more than an afterthought

I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)

when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying
