I had a slightly large avatar (300 something kbytes), but it was hosted offsite, since I read this on the avatar selection page ;

Code:
Your avatar must be no bigger than 100 pixels by 140 pixels in size. Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 25 KB.

Now, the way it's worded, avatars HOSTED by GBATemp can't be larger than 25k, but it says nothing about offsite limits.

Can someone clear this up for me?

If hosted offsite (let's say an image host, or my own site) is the 25k limit still imposed?

Yes. You would still be linking to a file bigger then the 25k limit allows even though it isn't hosted here. Or that would be my understanding anyway...

BTW, I liked your avy
