Hi, I hope that this is the right place to ask about possible feature requests! Without further ado, this is the "problem" I've run into:

I'm frequently posting in the Free Games thread, sometimes even a few times a day, depending on how many giveaways I manage to find.

The problem is that users that are subscribed to that thread won't be notified about new replies if the last post in that thread is made by a certain user and is not at least a day or so old and that very same user is about to make a new post which will get auto-merged with their last post in that thread. (I hope that I've worded it properly.) As a result of that, all users that are subscribed to that thread might not be notified about some of those giveaways if they aren't checking those threads manually.

I've noticed that some posts made by e.g. editors, like KiiWii, don't get auto-merged in his PS4 and PS5 exploit threads, which made me wonder if it's possible to do any of them following:
  • Remove the auto-merge option from the "long time members" - maybe users that have more than 1000 posts?
  • Remove the auto-merge option per thread?
  • Make a new permission/role assigned manually by a staff member to users that request for a valid reason?
First option might be problematic as it'll allow anyone with 1000 posts or more to flood the forums if they are willing to do.
Second option will lead to the thread possibly getting flooded by different users regardless of user rank.
Third option might be the best as user will need to provide a valid reason for why they need the auto-merge disabled, but it might create more work for the staff members.

I hope that you'll be able to find a viable solution but it's not the end of the world if it's not possible to be implemented at this point or it's too much of work to do so.

Thank you for your time!

Parrot learns to say: "Unfortunately that's an anti spam measure and the EOF desperately needs it" - becomes GBATEMP Staff Member.

No, this has been suggested multiple times already, and it simply won't do. Why can't Admins leave the Spam filter enabled just on the EOF but not everywhere else, is beyond me.

If the anti spam measure is "just because the EOF desperately needs it" then leave it active in the EOF!
