Ataribox Design Revealed

The Ataribox, a new console by Atari, has been circulating the net for a while. We finally have confirmation as to what it looks like, and the fact that it will be a modern console, competing with PS4 and Xbox One! It will also support old Atari games, probably through emulation, but that is not Atari's main focus. There are two designs to choose from, the "wood" model and a "red/black" model.
Atari said:
Inspired by classic Atari design elements (such as the iconic use of wood, ribbed lines, and raised back); we are creating a smooth design, with ribs that flow seamlessly all around the body of the product, a front panel that can be either wood or glass, a front facing logo, indicator lights that glow through the material, and an array of new ports.

It has also been revealed that the Ataribox will have HDMI, 4 USB ports, and an SD card slot. Below is an image of what the red model looks like from the front and back.

More details are to be revealed soon!

I wouldn't be surprised if this was just a 1080P arcade emulation machine, where neo geo can dump their games on (instead of nintendo switch) :glare:

I mean if the games aren't gonna get improvements like the ps4/vita ports why bother? Code mystics did some neo geo games on ps4 and vita, The last blade 2, has online mode at least, nice graphic filters and even a ingame move list and information of cheats and achievements.

They probably gonna be a bunch of licensed arcade classics that hardly anyone had chance to play along with some potential console games like the ones atari had involved with, like dragon ball z or N+.

Honestly i didn't know atari was still a brand alive and kicking. What kind of year this is, when stuff I assumed was no more suddenly starts coming out of nowhere. Super Bomberman R, Ultra street fighter 2, New Bubsy game, Cup head, A 2D dragon ball fighting game, Rayman, and now Atari. The year of resurrection of dead games? O_o

I agree. This whole console might make them bankrupt if they can't pull off a miracle, which I'm hoping for. It looks cool but it's Atari... who knows.

I assume SNK was going bankrupt considering their last game was king of fighter XVI which was before that KING OF FIGHTERS XIII! Besides that, porting old neo geo games to android, ios, steam, ps3/ps4/vita and nintendo switch. I just think if people have to do that to keep themself around is a bad move. Not to mention KOF XVI was published by atlus, so it just shows how little money they had they couldn't publish the game themself.

An Atari 2600 was my first video game when I was kid. It is a nice console of modern world but I want to know about the third party supporting and what they can do with this new technology console. I am keeping my eyes on it. Interesting.

I agree with you. Also, kudos to you for joining in 2002 and still using GBATemp today! That takes some dedication :P
