Interesting replies so far guys.
I could try to list some of the "schlock" I suppose. But I tend to try to forget it, not focus on it
Ok a few examples. Paint DS, unmitigated crap. They held it back a year, what on earth for?
Aquarium DS. Might have not be so offended if they hadn't released Fantasy Aquarium at the same time. Those two titles are really just one title purposely spread into two games for no apparent justification.
Brain Age was stellar, but since Brain Age, it has been cloned to death. And several of the clones have been very shabby.
Pet games. I don't hate the games for their icky puppy luv nature. But there has been a bit too much cloning going on. And some of it is dreadfully shallow.
Some games appear as if the designer got bored and just didn't feel like completing the game. Command and Destroy looked promising until you realized it was barely there. It could have been great, instead it was uncooked.
I've read plenty of reviews (I do read reviews). A lot of games have been released, and the software was really just buggy. It wasn't the game idea, it was just poorly made product.
I've read where some games like the Card playing types are really just crummy games front to back. The only good part being the jacket art.
I've seen a few games based off well known names turn out to be turkeys. You can't just assume a brand name is a safe bet.
This is why I plan to buy what I consider to be money well spent, even if I DON'T actually neeeeed to spend money. Hey, I'm not trying to play some sort of paragon of virtue here. I only plan to buy games from companies where I consider the company something akin to a friend. I actually DO know the owners of some game companies.
Plus I have my pride, being cheap eventually gets on one's nerves.
Sometimes it's really just about wanting to get a demo. Sometimes you check out a game that you just are not sure of, and you get surprised to find you liked it AFTER you tried the download.
I've bought the retail instead of settling for a download in a few cases because I KNEW the game was going to be detailed enough I wanted the manual as well. This is rare though. Not many DS games require much explanation.
And, I DO live in a town that is lucky to get a new title in at all, let alone keep it in stock. If I wasn't on a rom site, seeing games that had come out, I often would never have heard of the game at all either.
It's to this forums credit by the way, that they make as much discussion as possible. I was beginning to wonder if there actually were even any decent gaming forums to be had for the DS etc etc etc. I wasn't having any luck finding one.
I can afford to buy a game a month (assuming I have any I want). I don't want to be doing it at random, among a list of games, where I have every reason to believe my success rate is 10% if I am lucky. Nope. I don't tell my local store how I come to decide what I want them to order in for me. I'm just happy I can give them a bit of honest business.
But I don't feel like contributing to their ever increasing stash of used games under glass
