Misc Are switch Pokémon events hosted the same way as DS where an adhoc console running a special rom sends the mystery gift?

Wondering if we’ll see hacked switches being able to host events like in the DS days.

I am going to go with probably not as the world is more interconnected than 10 years ago. My guess at least with wi-fi events there is a server that hosts them for a certain amount of time. As for local events, I am not sure, I haven't played pokemon in so long that I don't even know if they do infared type events anymore.
