Piracy is clearly illegal while homebrew code is clearly legal, so flashcarts themselves fall into a bit of a grey area. I think (in the US, I don't know about Japan) they're *technically* legal if not used for piracy.

Which is stupid. Flashcards should be legal everywhere. And everybody says "They're only using it to pirate games"... yet there are some really great homebrew apps..

Flash Cards when blank are legal in most countries. It becomes illegal when you put the games on it and if you're using a DSi, then when the firmware is flashed it becomes illegal as well. Atleast that is what I have been told.

I ish I was in other country so this carts can not be illegal
Who cares if it's illegal? The chances of you being caught and prosecuted are nil.

QUOTE(Snailface @ Oct 18 2010, 05:54 PM) They aren't manufactored or shipped with any of that code so they are not illegal by themselves.

Just because they don't have anything on them doesn't make them legal.

Yes this is how all DSi compatible DS-Flashcarts work. Borrowing (stealing) code/data from original ROMs to bypass integrity checking and get their menu booted.

This make all DSi flash carts cleary illegal.

All DSi flash carts are illegal since they contain copyrighted code from Nintendo, but most of the people here fail to see that.

Cite your sources, so that I may rip them to shreds with logic. I dare you.

Read, think and understand: http://hackmii.com/2010/02/lawsuit-coming-in-3-2-1/

First, that's software. Second, this is the reason that "firmware" is distributed from offshore servers, and not included on a NAND chip on the cart. Third, this only applies to DSi compatible carts. Thus the carts themselves are not illegal.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Piracy is illegal in most countries, but not in some.I realize that you're trying to use simple logic so you don't get corrected, however think of it this way: Someone who is not getting proper treatment with their own material will probably move to countries where they do. No one wants their property stolen and have it be made even worse because the offender isn't actually breaking the country's law.

Therefore, I ask if you know of any countries that don't have laws against piracy, or if you're speaking out of your ass.

You're incredibly confident, yet you're still wrong. How do you think DSi flashcards bypass anti-piracy protection? They use codes from other games.

From what I heard, they aren't Nintendo games though WiiBricker. They are third-party games for the specific reason of not trying to fight Nintendo in court.
