Apple apologise for maps snafu

My aunt delivers mail in Florida. Someone using Apple Maps smashed into the back of the mail truck totaling it. Thank God she wasn't inside the truck when it happened.

Well with google maps this would of been worse since on the iphone it doesnt autoupdate. You have to go look at the screen and hit next and then because the maps are raster not vector, they take a while to load leaving you in an empty grey square of nothingness. Thats why turn by turn directions is a good move for apple.

It seems to me that you simply dont realize that the google maps on the iphone lack the same features as google maps on android and while the google maps may be more accurate in some parts of the world ( comparisons in china and korea shows the iphone to have more accurate information) the iphone version og google maps was stuck in a rut of no growth. Even if we now have a few innacuracies we now have more choices and maybe people will try out other apps that are better than google like waze.

For a userbase that prides themselves in having choice you all seem very fixative on google remaining the only choice for iphone. I appreciate you all fighting our battles but trust me. Apple users arent all as stupid as we appear. Many of us know we have choices and many as like to explore with alternatives within our closed garden.

I am very very surprised that Apple (the CEO himself) actually apologized and even offered alternatives (Ping...).

At least now Apple is trying to fix this. They need to do it fast and right.

Had Jobs still been CEO I'd be genuinely unsure if he'd make the same apology.
