Hey there. Basically just like the subject line says. I'm running Pro 6.60 C2 (daily build version, so I get PSX eboot support)

Most homebrews work, but i'm trying to get Ur-Quan Masters and it fails to start everytime. Tried using standard versions and signed versions, if that matters.
Supposedly it's built on 1.5 kernal but idk if that's correct or not. Other stuff like Rise of the Triad, Heretic, etc work just fine.

Thanks!

Ur Quan Masters works fine without the 1.50 kernel...a long time ago i had it on my 5.00 M33-6 PSP 2000 without any form of 1.50 loaders. If it's not working then it's a firmware or source file issue.

Hmm.... well that stinks. I've tried about 4 different versions i've found and they either show the "corrupted data" icon in the game folder, or else the one type that DID attempt to run, starts to load, shows a mouse cursor in the top left corner, and then force exits back to the desktop.
The only thing on a forum I found where someone else had that same crash, had a reply stating it was due to it being a 1.5 kernal built game. But if you say it's not, then I believe you.

I could switch back from Pro 6.60 C2 nightly build, to standard Pro 6.60 C2, but then I lose PSX eboot compatibility. (unless there is a way to load those on pro 6.60 that i'm not aware of)
I'm not so familiar to special seplugins, except for cwcheat.

Thanks for the reply xist!

What benefits does the Nightly build you're using have over a PRO-C install (not C2) using Popsloader? As far as i was aware that shouldn't be eclipsed by a nightly build.

Are you using version 0.6.2 of the PSP port of Ur Quan Masters?

I don't know what benefits it has vs Pro-C (non C2) version. Only thing I encountered using Pro-C2 was that PSX stuff wouldn't run. I found out about the nightly build version, applied that and all my psx stuff runs right from the main menu, and without having to use custom stuff/loaders.

What's the pro/con of staying on C2, vs dropping back to Pro-C?

So for whatever reason, I was mostly able to get it to run. I think what I did wrong was use the 0.7 content files from sourceforge. I made 2 urquan folders in my game folder. One had 0.6 content, the other had 0.5.

Both worked and started up, and I was able to play the game. However when trying to save, I would choose the save slot and the game (not the PSP) just froze up. No memory card access light or anything. Just "saving" and nothing else. Even hitting home and quit led to "exiting game" but the PSP basically froze and I couldn't shut it down without doing a hard shutdown.

Don't tell me that you're not able to save on this, since it would be mostly impossible to play the game then.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.
