I just picked up a Vita slim. On my 3ds I have really enjoyed getting a grip for it, as it really helps with my hand cramping for longer play sessions. After minimal play, I think I would enjoy the same for the Vita, but as I've looked at grip options, I'm also seeing these grips that give L3/R3 buttons for the back (or L2/R2 - I see them described as both). I haven't tried too much PS4 play yet, but I suspect I (and my son) will, so that option sounds interesting to me.

Does anyone have any recommendations on these different grip options for the slim? Thanks for any insights!

Different things, the deal is that while playing PS1/PS3/PS4 games you also get 4 softkeys on the bottom touchscreen. By default they're L2/R2 on the top side and L3/R3 on the bottom one, so some grips decide to cover the bottom panel and include 2 or 4 of what's effectively a fixed smartphone pen to add these "buttons"; some grips only add the 2s and leave part of the bottom exposed, in which case you may be able to fit a removable accessory for the 3s; most PS1 games don't use the 3s, for instance

The picture of this one even shows them clearly: https://www.ebay.it/itm/162202500688

Every single grip I've seen, whether for 1000 or 2000, looks like a disaster :)

Yeah, that's my concern. If I decide to experiment without a good lead, I definitely won't overinvest in the experiment. Thanks!

I've got a couple of these
I have this one: https://www.amazon.ca/CTA-CTAVITHG-...8&qid=1521044698&sr=8-2&keywords=ps+vita+grip
and it's pretty great to be honest. I've gotten so I barely touch my vita without it

I also bought the L2/R2 grip when it was first available on play-asia

https://www.amazon.ca/Handle-Joypad...1521044769&sr=1-3&keywords=ps+vita+grip+l2/r2

it's nice as well. it's not as comfortable for just vita stuff, so I only throw it on when i know i'm doing some remote play. but it's so much nicer than trying to remember to use the touchpad in the back

That first looks intriguing as a first attempt. Reviews on it for the slim Vita are mixed. Which Vita do you use it with?
