Looking to replace my trusty desktop with this laptop, but the hardware issues concern me.
Would love to get input about how useable this system is and how long it might last me.

The early laptops had some issues, anything you get now will probably be just fine. You should probably wait for a refresh with the next gen AMD APU and GPU, would be an even better desktop replacement.
