Gaming Animal Crossing Technical information

I'm guessing that when you load your town up, it sets a flag on the save, and that flag is reversed when you save and go back to the title screen. When you turn it off without saving, the flag is still tripped because technically loading your file is saving a few things at the same time.

That's my best guess. It's simple and wouldn't require a lot of code.
 
I think it would be amazing if someone did a ACWW rom hack; maybe add new items or something like that. Just a dream for now...
 
There's a code in the general DS codes database that disabled resetti.

And yes, it's a simple matter of setting a "game was started" flag when the game starts, and erasing it when the game saves. If the game starts up and find that flag was set but not erased, it knows the game was not saved properl.

And this is why you can't even click continue and close the game?
