What is that?
I'm sure this is for actual in-game items you can acquire, like: Red Bar Tee, Moldy Shirt, 9 Ball Shirt, etc... Rather than using custom designs. This template won't work for many "Special Villagers" Resetti, Pete, KK, Katrina, Etc.. This is because their "cloth" texture is formatted differently than that (to include hats and unique items and such) Although Lief and Isabelle seem to work. Apparently also Nook and Digby(?) as seen in previous users' posts. Some experimenting is required. (Notably, Isabelle's hairband is sourced from her cloth file too, but when used as a villager, it seems to just pull from the regular cloth files to match the outfit just fine? Hardly noticeable anyway, lol)

The advantage here is that you can save custom design slots for other patterns and walkways and whatnot.
The disadvantage is that you may have to go into the game's item list to change the clothing's name to make it more streamlined. iirc, item names are stored and called just like villager names, and so you'll have to use the same or less number of letters and pad it to the correct length. IDK if there would be a call for that for publicly shared patches..

Has anyone had success in importing models? I saw that the creator of Ohana has stated that he has no plans to support it in OhanaRebirth. Has EFE been successful in importing Textures/Models? My last attempt a while back failed to even open ACNL files and my windows machine is down for the count. I do recall someone importing a non-shaded hoopa and pokemon center model?? Any Idea how?

UPDATE: Seems like someone here figured it out in another thread. I'll include it here for anyone like myself who was too dumb to use the search button!
*snip*

Create bcres: EFE -> File -> New From File -> Nintendo 3ds Plugin -> CGFX -> Choose .obj file with an mtl and you get an bcres file.
Texture: Drag & Drop the bcres in Ohana3ds and you can export/import texture

I'll have to try this when I get a working windows machine again. romFS repacking works on Win10 right? :V

Edit: Spelling and minor additional information for clarification
Edit 2: New information answered my question.

Yes and no. The bcres files are slightly different at least in how ohana sees them, but since there are no new animal types for the regular villagers, all you need to do is extract the textures from HHD and import them onto the same animal type in AC:NL. Then you need to edit the proper script files to fix the name, catchphrase, pic motto or anything else you like. The only thing I haven't been able to decipher where it's stored is the default house layout for each animal. I assume it's encrypted in the .bins of the NPC folder, but I haven't dug into deciphering it yet.

At any rate, I was able to import Stella into my wife's game by overwriting Eunice.

I'm not sure how a new NPC like Lottie would react. Now I want to try that.

So I've been fiddling with the maps and map collisions, finally got around to inserting a simple custom map.
However, I can't find a way to give them their bump maps and everything is semi-transparent. Anyone have any answers, I can't seem to get these to work?

I should also note the grass comes out with slightly pink highlights which is also very odd.
Thanks~

I try to search others stuff !
I found to walk through everything, even plants.
Data bytes : "EF3D" : the wall (which allows do not cross) in acres EF (for example. :))

I'm really interested in ROM hacking to create villager mods/make NPC characters into villagers/import new and returning villagers from HHD into New Leaf but have very little experience with this kind of thing. Before I make the attempt, I'm just wondering if this stuff is better left to the pros, or can someone without advanced hacking knowledge reasonably hope to pull this off?

I wouldn't consider myself to have advance hacking knowledge, but I did have to train myself in a few things. Probably the best skills you need are an understanding of hex and how to work a hex editor.

I was able to successfully create a hacked Rom that replaced Eunice with Stella from her HHD textures and restore most of her default furniture from the original game, and I'm mostly a novice hacker.

That's encouraging to know since I have familiarized myself with hex editing over the last few months to edit the RAM. Guess I'll have to have a crack it once the post-holiday madness dies down.

Yeah if you've pulled off RAM edits through hex, editing the ROMfs stuff isn't much different, it's just a matter of figuring out where the data you want to edit is stored, which for New Leaf, is pretty intuitive; though if you're looking to do basically what I did, there's no need to reinvent the wheel; I can walk you through everything I found. The easy part is importing the textures through Ohana.

That would be awesome, importing HHD villagers was really my main objective, so I'd really appreciate any help I can get.

Theres no need to be advanced when it comes to rom editing animal crossing :). I havent bothered messing with villager models or anything but have had good success adding collisions and models. All it takes is hex knowledge and patience.

Did you have any problems with the bumpmaps or shaders?

No, I did not. I just extracted the textures from the HHD model and applied them to the same animal type in New Leaf using Ohana.

Can you PM me the HHD character's textures? Felyne, especially.
