The problem I have with trading is that you never know if an item will have a use in the future, apart from obvious things like fossils I guess...

Like how Katrina tells you how you can have good luck by wearing a certain item.

It was always been since the gamecube version. XD
Red increases the probability of getting rare items. (EAST)
Yellow for fortune. (WEST)
Green for overall luck (SOUTH)

Nope, only one room is enough. Though applying it in all rooms is better and it ups your HHA score.
Few items also have 2 colors so it can double your luck depending on where it is placed.
Some items are lucky no matter where it is placed.
