Hardware Android rumoured to be integrated

This is a rumour I saw while looking for a new phone today:

WiiU to have Android OS built in and running along side Nintendo's own OS.

If this is true. Nintendo will have it locked down tight where you can only install apps they approve of. Android has tons of Nintendo emulators so they would be idiots to let you side load.

I'm not so sure about this, if it is true, I really hope that they make it very damn well protected against piracy and not let it be hacked easily like the phones.

Thats just it. Looking at XDA-Developers, there seems to be many more Android enthusiast than console hackers out there. Thus, more people to work on it getting "rooted".


I'll take this with a HUGE grain of salt.

Hardware isn't the thing for making amazing things. It's software. I doubt Nintendo would give up on software dev for Android and Google. It'd limit them too much (or the other way around, whatever).

Nintendo definitely must have worked with google for that April fool's joke especially considering the fake commercial featured a famicom. so, I dunno, it could be possible, I won't dismiss the possibility.

I think if its even possible it will run android os on the tablet only, that way maybe you can play appstore games on the tablet itself but the main hardware will run nintendo's OS so i doubt it would be exploitable as Nintendo would probably add their own level of protection on there. Of course this is all speculation.

Highly unlikely. It will probably run on a 3ds/Wii like menu. Nintendo would never give up that much control over the system menu to something it didn't make. For one thing, it would make it a lot easier to hack, as there isn't an Android device that hasn't been rooted at this point. There are things you can do to make it harder, but it still happens eventually. For another, it would allow (after root of course) the operation of entirely seperate markets that Nintendo gets no revenue from. Third, you would be sacrificing game performance, as Android apps are all run through a Java VM.
