How do you remove the smile icon via SMS app so I keep the line enter key. So, I am not hitting Shift constantly to enter a new line and it is annoying to have a emoji key.

That's probably in the keyboard settings (Settings -> Language & Input -> Keyboard & Input Methods, click on the settings icon next to the keyboard you're using), although I prefer Google Keyboard myself. It's much more configurable than the stock Android keyboard.

Emoji for physical keyboard disabled. Unless I am blind where it is. Google SMS app and stock.

Using google's keyboard doesn't offer to swap out the emoji with enter. So I can hold enter for the emoji
