I'm having "An exception occurred" black screen on my 3ds after finishing the last race on the World Rally Championship game in the season mode. The other races work fine.. even when I choose Quick Race mode everything works fine. I?ve already tried with two different .cia but the same error keeps happening.
I've played SmackDown VS Raw 2008 (cartridge), F1 2011 (cia) and NFS Underground 2 via Twilight Menu and everything worked fine. I'm on the latest Luma and I believe everything is updated.
I've done the solutions found in other threads but they don't seem to work or the problem is different since this happens at a specific situation instead of the game not booting or the error coming up during CFW install.

How do I fix it?

Here's a picture:
Thanks

Just to be sure as I'm still learning the ropes around the 3ds scene. Any of those releases all I need to do is just put the files inside the root of the SD card overwriting the version I have installed, right?

Yes, all you have to do is replace the sdmc:/boot.firm when updating Luma3DS on the SD card. You can also boot different versions of Luma3DS through the Luma3DS chainloader. Hold the (START) button when turning on the 3DS.
  • sdmc:/luma/payloads/Luma3DS v10.1.firm
  • sdmc:/luma/payloads/Luma3DS v9.1.firm
  • sdmc:/luma/payloads/GodMode9.firm
  • sdmc:/boot.firm
There may come a point where you may need a bootloader that's more flexible than boot9strap if you have multiple *.FIRM payloads. See fastboot3DS much later when you're more familiar and comfortable with your way around the basics.

None of those releases worked. I get the same error. Tried all of them. I was already on 10.1
Check if your HOME Menu installed CIA copy of WRC The Official Game (EUR) is intact.
  • GodMode9[A:] SYSNAND SD/title/00040000/00149300/content/0000000#.tmdTMD file options...Verify file
If you get Verification success, that means the game's .APP files matches hash records against the .TMD (title metadata) which is GOOD.
If you get Verification failed, that game had its data corrupted, which is BAD.

You should check if your SD card is fake, faulty, or dying.
  1. Copy everything off the SD card to a computer.
  2. Quadruple reformat.
  3. Full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw. Do not skip.

Ok, the .CIA verification was sucessful. so the game is good.

Now I'm having the same "An exception" occured black screen after shutting down. I'm currently backing up the SD Card to the computer to do the 3 steps you indicated!

4. Delete the *.h2w test files. Copy everything back to the SD card.
5. Battery trick.
6. Clear Home Menu extdata (eng)
7. Black screen on SysNAND boot (eng)
If that game still crashes despite trying everything listed above, it could be a game related bug that can't be avoided. As an example of an in-game bug, playing the .3DS rom converted to .CIA version of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, there is an cutscene where the game always crashes when
Snake is launched off from a A-12 spyplane
.

Edit - Here's another example of an in-game bug. Titles made by ATLUS such as Persona Q2 - New Cinema Labyrinth and Etrian Odyssey IV can freeze the 3DS system when the (HOME) button is pressed.

  • Launching a game while having suspended software hangs 3DS
  • N2DS XL Freezes when pressing Home Button

Yes, I guess I gotta live with it, unfortunately!
Thanks for your help you were very helpful!
