I was genuinely surprised and more excited than I've been in years over any announcement. However, once the showcase was over I opened the website to find out more.. which is where any hype I had died. The game is set to be a "PvP extraction shooter" in a "world of evolving, persistent zones". So pretty much a generic live-service looter shooter which they have draped with the flayed skin of the franchise.
With people's reaction to the Suicide Squad gameplay and the abysmal performance of Redfall (both in terms of game quality and player retention) it makes me sad to see that so much effort and creativity will go into making something that will feature the same bland, repetitive gameplay as dozens of other games out there. To be honest I played my fair share of The Division, Apex Legends, and Destiny, and now I'm kind of done. It feels like a waste of good lore to not make a single player game.
