All I want for Christmas is a way to read from a USB FAT32 HD to install games FROM. I was extra nice this year and USB support in Loader GX2 would be nice as well :)

All I want is for people to realize that fat32 usb installing isn't worth dev's time.

My sources say different. You have to wait till Easter 2017 instead.

So you can save copies of your games to install FROM that is not your SD card. Games are large, SD cards are expensive. Frequently swapping install files for games onto a SD card will wear down your SD card quickly. Not everyone can afford a 512GB SD card, and even if you can afford one, not a good idea wearing it down with installer files you swap out.

Ya, would be nice. Difference is, we know USB FAT32 is doable since there are other Wii U homebrew that implement it, and the developers for WUPinstaller/ Loader GX confirm it is possible and the only stopping it from happening is someone to rewrite the FS routines to add the support.

Gamepad support, Nintendo couldn't get it happening properly themselves. Dedicated hackers are better then Nintendo at working out tricks to make things happen, but it'll take a while. Definitely not doable for christmas :)

Install to fat32 usb won't help that. You would still need to install to a partion that games would install to so that defeats the point

Also you don't need a big sd card. A 32 (or even 16) gb one is big enough. swapping games isn't hard and if you use a cheap sd card your good.

Also fat32 usb will just make the wii u nag you to format ever time you want to use it. Barely any programs support ustealth and I doubt many more will.

    The C: drive
I have a 64GB micro-sd card which i use to install games/run homebrew on, its neither worn out nor too small, and it was only like 10$. It gets a fairly fast transfer/install speed too.

I'm only talking about using the USB FAT32 HD to use as a source to install games FROM. I already use a 500GB USB drive for Wii U to install games to and another 500GB USB drive for the vWii. I would store all my game installer files on a third USB drive and only plug it in while installing a game.

If you use REDNAND and a 32GB Wii, your only option is a 64GB card and you only have access to store your installer files on < 1/2 of that card.

A person who uses the drive only for storing their installable games would only plug it in while doing the act of installing a new game, so the nagging would not be a continual issue.

This post surprises me. When I read the first post I thought you meant fat32 as in install to the device. Yeah i'm perfectly fine with installing things off a usb device. In fact I would like that.
redNAND has no use for most as of right now so that doesn't matter. The thing is that most want to pirate games and thats it.
I can hardly believe that people are actually not to lazy that they can get up and unplug and replug drives.

We're of the same opinion then, with regards to intended use of FAT32 support. Handy for installs, would never dream to want to install something to it.

I agree that right now there is no gains using redNAND. But looking forward, especially in mid-2017 when zelda is eventually released and an anticipated update will be made available at that time (likely the last, since it will likely be one of the last games), there might be hope there. Again, we haven't encountered system updates yet.

Also, new CFWs are rolling out. Doesn't Mocha CFW require redNAND? As these new CFWs roll out and provide new desirable features, redNAND will become more desirable.

My 2.5" external drives cases have a on/off toggle switch :) Plugging/unplugging two USB cables per drive is too much exerted effort :)

Although I appreciate you quoting me, it's from another thread, so the context may not be apparent to others. ;)

Also, I am currently no longer a developer on the Wii U, at least publicly. Sorry.
IIRC, another developer I talk to was saying that U-Stealth drives can be read raw fairly easily, but turning U-Stealth on and off on your PC is a hassle.

No you are wrong mocha does not require rednand it can be used on sysnand to remove signpatches and make the wiiu region free.
