Be sure to set Youtube to play video in HD else it will look crappier than usual!

Please pardon the Quake III weapons, they are filler until I or someone else can create some fresh new weapon sprites. The ones in the Aminet sources are too horrid to be used.

Will run XBOX Classic, AROS, and pretty much any main stream OS.

Since it is Odamex I will of course be supporting on-line and networked multi-player which is a must for Alien Breed anyhow.

More to come.

Thankx to BSzili for the AROS port, and Hypereye for the XBOX Classic port.

What is Odamex?

Is this Alien Breed 3D 1 or 2?
AB3DI was, as far as im concerned, the best Doom-em-up ever. Shame about the piss poor graphics which has been nicely rectified here.

One important question though. Do you have to aim to fire? Or is it doom-style (like the original AB3d) where as long as you have line of sight your bullet will hit?

Odamex is an advanced DOOM source port:

http://odamex.net/

Runs on nearly every OS out there as well as the XBOX, and maybe some day still, the Wii. HyperEye did the XBOX port.

As for AB3D, I agree, it was perhaps the best DOOM clone the Amiga had as far as being like DOOM goes. The graphics were very pixelated, but on the other hand it pulled off some things that DOOM could not do (at the time), such as water, ducking, ambient walking sounds, 4000+ colors as opposed to a 256 color palette, and so on. Then AB3D II brought in advanced lighting technology such as the enemies with flash lights and the angled ceiling lights, though sadly it's levels were not near as fun as those in the first 3D rendition.

My project is a tribute to both of those games as well as the top down series that came before them.

Jumping is an option as is free look, which I highly suggest since I'm designing this with those features in mind.

"Tribute" is a very loose term. Are you recreating the levels of the original game (not bothered about the second one)? Or creating entirely new levels?

Is it ready to download and play yet?

All new levels. It began as a recreation of Alien Breed 3D, but I ditched that effort in favor of something new and on a more advanced engine. You'll see familiar sights as the development goes on. :)

Ok well good luck with the project. I know it's difficult to keep momentum with things like this.

Thank you! :)

It will get done, I've have been teaching my self to edit the DOOM engine since 2001. It's time I put all that knowledge to use. (Yes, I"m a slow learner, but dedicated).

Are you a Breed fan, do you have any ideas you'd like to see put forth in my project? Negative criticism welcome, we accomplish nothing by mincing words. ;)

Alien Breed 3D was an absolutely terrible series, unlike the proper series. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do this at all but they do so...good for them?

Really? You didn't like the first Alien Breed 3D? At first I was put off cause it looked like crap and DOOM seemed so much better, but upon playing it, I was rather impressed. Where it could not keep up with DOOM it transcended it in other areas. The translucent water to name but one. Of course I really came to love the level design too, it was different, but well done. 3D II on the other hand was much better to look at and was VERY impressive as a technical demo, what with the interesting lighting effects and all that VGA could not touch! Sadly the level design was drab, and the textures were over used. Nice weapons and a few good enemies though!

But ya, I agree, the top down shooters were great, which is why I am drawing influence from them too as I create this.

Ok I won't mince word then... I kind of lost interest when you said it would be all new levels. The chance to play the original levels again in a decent graphical environment was an exciting though. Playing Aline Breed themed levels isn't nearly as exciting.

Good luck with the project anyway!

I hear ya! The only other related project I am aware of is the AB3D Quake TC and the one or two open source Alien Breed clones out there.

If you got an iPad or Android, Team 17 did recently revamped the classics and created some new chapters, they look and play great and usually I am not one for having my thumbs on the screen pushing virtual buttons and directional pad.
