Hacking Acekard Ready to Ship!

I know I'll end up buying a Slot1 card, but I think I'll wait till there's more than 2 options. M3/G6, SC, and Ewin have Slot1's coming, and surely EZ will throw their hat in the ring too. When those are all out I'll start comparison shopping.

I'm looking forward to purchase this thing to give some impressions of this product. I agree with cory that this is probably the closest we'll get and it definitely fits all of the criteria I would want looking for a slot1 card. The real intersting deal breaker on this is going to be the custom file allocation system it implements.

really, though. there's a lot of shit being thrown at this thing for no good reason. the DS-X got nothing but hype around here, back when it was similarly unproven.

The DS-X hype is caused mostly by GBATemp's exclusive coverage, like having its own forum, having its logos on the main page's menu (it's not there now), etc.

Wasn't that good of a product really.

I don't know I think the DS-X is a pretty impressive first major showing in the Slot1 category, but it'll likely be shown up pretty soon. The problem was all the representations from the ds-x team about how this was gonna be the be-all, end-all. Clean roms, perfect compatibility, yada yada. Turns out to mostly meet the description, but if the firmware needs an update for every few roms that get released, how's it any different than patching?

Exactly... so it uses cleam dumps so what? But the cart still needs to patch them.

yeah, lets follow costellos advice and not think anything positive about this card until gbatemp reviewed it.
remeber the ds-s review, claiming 99,9% compatiblity. look at the comp. list the users made. its 70% or so...

sorry, but after the ds-x thing here on gbatemp, you know what i mean, i dont trust them anymore.

Hey mars77 don't say that!
From our tests (about 50 games) the DS-X indeed had a great compatibility! (1 non working, 49 perfect)
You can't blame us for not trying more than 50 games!
Of course many more issues have been discovered afterwards and this is why we're writing a 2nd opinion review which will rectify the mistakes made in the first review.

I also blame the DS-X team for not releasing their new firmware already!

sorry costello, but my trust in gbatemp reviews is gone since that ds-x review. right, its ok if say you cant test all the games, but the whole thing that was going on here on gbatemp since the day the ds-x got announced looks kind of strange to me. and im sure im not the only one feeling like this.
"gbatemp exklusive", a ds-x board that early (there is no ds-link board, no acekard board etc), the review which got the highest score of all flashcards reviewed, even its not the best flashcard out there? newbies will read the reviews, buy a ds-x cause its got the highest rating and after a few days they will start to realize "oh, there are other flashcards which does not have all the problems i have with my ds-x, why did i bought it? right! gbatemp said its the best!" ... see what i mean?

i dont know whats going on behind the scenes, maybe nothing, maybe this all is just pure coincidence, but i have a bad feeling about that ds-x/gbatemp thing.

would be nice to make a new review, now that the facts are clear, a review which ratings shows that its by far NOT the best flashcard out there.

You can't really blame GBA temp for the ds-x review. I blame the people for buying the product so early. I'm waiting for most of the slot 1 solutions to be released and after a few months buying the best one. If your after something you know thats reliable and all the DS roms work and if they don't, the firmware/patcher gets upgraded get a supercard or M3.
