And even that hasn't received an update in over 2 years...

Because there hasn't been any new worthy DS titles in the past two years... Basically all the games that need fixes have them.

i remember acekard was the supreme flashcart for the ds system. are ds games still being released or is the cycle completely dead now?

There are still some iND releases according to http://www.advanscene.com/ but the scene seems to have stopped.
