Hacking Acekard 2.1 freezes when writing .sav file

Just to confirm, I got the same results as darkpenguin.

Holding A does seem to use a different save engine, as it doesn't lock up the whole system when I save like tapping A does, but I still can't resume a save game.

I was asked to try a new loader with 1.5.1. It allowed me to play Bowsers Inside Story but then all the other games wouldnt work.

Did it allow you to save using that loader?

Also bought from focalprice, with this problem. Now everyone can't be selling clones if they even exist. I think these are genuine, and claims about being fakes is just an excuse.

I bought one after I kept hearing how good these were and the best support they got. At that price could have bought 4 of another type.

The freeze problem I've solved by changing system settings save option to nds.sav from just sav. before playing any game without having any other sav file in dir, but this will only let you play the games but you can't have the save option, as soon you switch off your ds you will have to restart all over. Also can now save zelda after I used "zelda save converter" but this didn't work on any other games.

Focalprice have not responded, so I think paypal despute will have to be opened.

Same problem, and also purchased from DX.

Thought it might be a fake but noticed that AK2's can use different chips.

This one appears to use a spansion chip.

HWID is also 80.

I would also point out that the AceKard 2 sticker on my AceKard 2.1 is on lop sided... so perhaps these card are fakes.

I'll tell you what it means for me. From now on instead of suggesting this card to friends and family, or anyone who will listen like I had been doing. M3 will be seeing my business from now on. I mean this has just been a major hassle, I bought several of these cards to set up for wifes friends and they do not work as advertised. I think if you would want customers to keep coming back (Acekard.... Deal Extreme... Whomever) you would at least say "hey bad batch." , or well let's see say anything, anything at all.

A lopsided sticker means nothing. My AK2 has a lopsided sticker on it but it works just fine without any save issues with any game, and I'm running the Genuine version of AKAIO 1.5.1 (Not the fake-card cracked version).

Yes its been weeks now and I have sent numerous emails to acekard and no response. Deal extreme said to return them but it doesn't look like they selll them now so whats the use. I realise they were only 11 bucks each but I did have to buy 4 of them for the kids. At least they can use the older firmware but obviously newer games do not work. I will probably fill this card with older games that work and just get them another one. I have been on #acekard quite a bit and Normmatt has been quite reserved with his communication.To his credit he has asked me to try a few loaders which did not remedy anything and it may be possible that akaio 1.6 will contain a fix. It might not be worth his while I don't now. He is obviously knowledgeable of this issue and it would be nice to get an honest statement of his intentions. At the end of the day if these cards are clones deal extreme should inform acekard where they received them from and it is neither acekard or the firmware makers problem that these cards do not work with current firmware. There must be heaps of these cards around and obviously no one is going to buy them again if this issue isn't fixed. Serves us right for being pirates I guess !.garrr

If they are clones, see if you can find a copy/link to the cracked version of the 1.5.1 loaders+firmware.

That might work, however it's not guaranteed.

I cannot provide you a link to it though as Normatt, Smiths, and those guys have asked the mods here to delete any post linking to the cracked version of AKAIO 1.5.1. In addition I believe users have been told not to provide links to it either.

Yes, however, these problems are not exclusive to dealextreme. Others having problems ordered from focalprce, realhotstuff, and mygamingmart. The last two are recommended resellers on acekard's site. What worries me is that acekard isn't addressing e-mails or message board posts on this issue.

I don't know if this means anything but I'm having the same saving issues with nds games, however gba games launched to my 3-in-1 save and load fine

Dude, why would the guy pay us to receive and fix something defective we can't use, when all he does is maintain his own fork of the firmware? (If you ask me, his firmware ought to be the official one since the official one only seems to incorporate his changes once in a while). Someone who's ordered more than one faulty AceKard could donate one to him to try troubleshooting, but I seriously doubt he is going to put any money toward one just so he can stop us from whining.

It has been suspended for days, and the IRC server he's reputed to hang out on hasn't even resolved for me in days.

DX doesn't seem to carry any carts at all now citing a DMCA request, which could just be a convenient way of avoiding the headache involved in all the RMA requests they're receiving.

i thought i'd add on a tiny bit of info.

according to team acekard there have been no new 2.1s produced. that means that this is not a bad batch but more probably a good looking clone.

norm has tried to debug what the issue might be, but without a working "bad" card he can't really do that. i'm sure he would take a donation. drop in #acekard on the gbatemp irc network and ask him.

@Canker: i'm having issues with my bnc and the servers, but my normal isp is connecting just fine. try both servers.

Well i was hanging out in channel acekard, asked him a few times if there was anything I could do to help. He asked me to try a few loaders for him and I did. When I asked if he was around a few times I just received and returned some abuse. He doesn't say much and I dont really like having to hang around like a dog just in case he does asks me something. I tried logging on but I am banned now. I have managed to get all games working now except Bowsers Inside Story is not saving. NSMB is saving and keeps the save too. I haven't tried mario and sonic at winter olympics yet or GTA. I think ill just fill this card with older games that do work and get a new card for newer games anyway. I would like to solve this puzzle but I don't have any technical computing skills in this area. Its more the challenge than anything I guess. Garrrrr
