Hey,
a few weeks ago, I started replaying my CFW Old 3ds XL and by being aware of the current hw mods, some ideas came to my mind and I was wondering if some of you may answer my questions :
Can a USB-C/A mod to transfer files to sd card by cable be possible ?
Same for a USB A OTG (to connect wired controller, headphone, USB Key, etc..) ?

If you have some more ideas for potential HW mods, write them below so maybe we can have answers and further researches..

Would it be less painful if I do it on a N3DSXL ?
Every aspect of this is going to be so excruciatingly painful that I think it is highly unlikely you will continue with any of it. If it was even just a little painful someone else would have done it by now.

But it's ThEoReTiCaLlY PoSsIbLe!

Stop being such a downer. Them just showing intent to try to do it means they have more perseverance than 90% of people. If they fail, they learn something, if they succeed, they make what they wanted to and they learn something.

Also, as a project it's not as hard as others. It will involve learning skills like programming and PCB design, but all the stuff you need for it already exists, they just have to figure out how to put it together.

There might be an easier option, since the general queation is quite open. There are SD cards with a built-in USB interface. Modding one of those would probably be way easier than modding the 3DS hardware.

New 3ds XL is designed in a modular way. The SD card reader happens to be it's own module.

You could build a board with a ribbon cable and a ribbon connector, plug the reader into it, and then plug it into the console. You could then put the SD card control logic on that board.

You could also develop it with the sd card reader disconnected from the 3ds to make sure you can get usb writing working before putting it in your 3DS.
I like this idea, might try it on a New model.
It comes more clear in my head how to actually put everything together, I might only need to find the components + learn pcb coding (might not be this hard since I have diverse basic coding experience) + learn which pins goes where etc
