No, that's exactly it - with SD-less, you can play your cartridges and DSiWare still while you wait for the new SD slot to arrive from eBay, or until you get home from holidays. With a spare tyre, you can still get where you're going, just slower, on the spare tyre until you find a tyre shop for a new one.If you send a 3ds out for repairs, you won't have it anyway..... You have to drive or tow a broken car. Sorry, but that was a bad metaphor.
Without SD-less, you can't play your 3DS at all, and without a spare tyre, you're stuck waiting for roadside assistance to show up.
