So the new Vita-2000 is available in Japan and most reviews I have seen are in japanese. Play-asia has 3 positive english reviews on the Vita-2000, one praising its new LCD screen. Perhaps there are japanese members of GBAtemp who own the new Vita or members who imported it from Japan that are willing to share their impressions?

Also it would be appreciated if someone could please translate a fewamazon reviews?

I skim through those Amazon reviews. Generally most people are praising that,

    * it is cheaper
    * It is thinner, makes it more portable
    * Start and Select buttons are now much easier to press
    * It uses standard USB port for charging and data transfer

What most of them are criticizing is that material used in the new Vita felt like a cheap plastic in compared to original Vita. Few of them complained about LCD looks worse than OLED used in original Vita.

Didn't know about those, so thanks for pointing it out... but I must wonder why Vita 1000 can't USB charge without needing an adapter. (or a PS4)

2000 still has an edge however, since it doesn't need a special adapter, and is able to use generic cables.
But this is offset by the price and inconvenience of having to import...

I think they went back to LCD to cut the price slightly in Japan. It helped the first week it released (Well Dangan Ronpa launching the same day helped a ton but still).

That's actually a measure to prevent damaging USB ports. Vita draws 1.2 A from USB ports, far more than USB 2.0 standards (0.5 A).

Vita USB charger grounds pin 2 and 3. When original Vita senses this it knows that Vita charger is plugged in and allows charging during gameplay by pulling 1.2 A. Other USB compliant device doesn't do this so you cannot charge during gameplay (and you'll be limited to 0.5 A charging when system is off).

The adapter I listed grounds pin 2 and 3, to trick VIta into thinking a compliant charger was plugged.

Wait, so Vita 1000 can charge from a USB source?

Yes when the system is off, a PC USB port can charge it at 0.5 A. Much slower than Vita charger.

    ok, wow
    http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/18/new-playstation-vita-review-2013/

So maybe the 1000 and 2000 aren't any different, other than the 2000 allowing micro USB cable to used. Supposedly not every USB source will work, regardless of Vita model. Judging by the above quote, laptops (and thus presumably PC's) are not guaranteed to charge the Vita. The quote makes it sound like USB-wall chargers will work, however.

On a side note, here's an additional reason 2000 model is better, that some of us might not have accounted for:
Unsurprisingly, OLED is stated to be better than LCD, although this they go on to say:
It might've helped to point out which PSP is being talked about here!

I usually don't mind LCD screens, but the one on the new Vita seems cheap, and it has an awful greenish tint, making it the colors look worse than the 3DS screen. Though I still prefer it over the 3DS screen due to the higher resolution. For the OG Vita, people complain about the OLED being too saturated, but i don't see it being so.
