Hacking About R4isdhc update?

I would like to ask 1 question. Currently i am using this latest 2013 model of this R4i

I would like to know if for example i had a 3DS with 6.1.0-11U and i want to update my R4i to 6.1.0-12U is it possible to use the 3DS without using any DSi or DSlite to update?

I have the R4i SDHC Dual Core and I had in the 6.0.11U, updated it to 12 and it worked perfect, as they are from the same company must work
