Hacking About NDS car charger

I have a car charger for my DS, which comes in two parts, the charger that plugs to the car plug, which has a standard USB plug on the other end. And a USB cable with one standard end that plugs to the charger, and the other end that plugs to the DS.

My question is: Does the charger just outputs standard USB voltage, so if I plug the USB cable for my cell phone into it, it will also charge my cell phone? Or do USB spec work using different voltage levels?

I would be careful with those power adaptors as car voltages do not put out a stable voltage (including modern cars) and I will be suprised if you can draw the rated current.

If you are happy that arrangement though then it should not matter.
