Yeah, I guess I didn't know about uncart needing arm9 access.

I guess I'm wondering why this works for other people and not me. This is all a learning experience. How do I switch CFWs like that? Like Cakes or Rei ?
It depends on what you want to do. To flat out switch CFW's, just simply delete the folder "aurei" and "arm9loaderhax.bin." From there replace it with the arm9loaderhax.bin from either CakesFW or ReiNAND and of course install them just like you would AuReiNAND.
With CakesFW, you need to convert the cakes.dat to arm9loaderhax.bin using this command
Code:
dd if=Cakes.dat of=arm9loaderhax.bin bs=512 skip=144
Or if you want to multi-boot use CtrBootManager9, which allows you to boot from multiple CFW's from the same menu.

So this is weird. I installed a CHMM2.cia and suddenly everything else just works. CHMM2 runs from the homebrew loader, I finally tired out the DS Doom Demo, and other stuff that I could never get to boot before. It all just works... weird. Well. I finally got a custom theme loaded. Now my 3DS looks like the old classic DS firmware <3

Since you had to dump dspfirm.cdc to run CHMM2 as CIA, maybe other homebrew were missing that file.

Not as far as I am aware. I didn't go to any lengths to put one there.

The second one. @Urbanshadow is working on providing ARM9 hooks and it works, but is only compatible with CakesFW.
The main idea would be to launch an ARM9 payload from Home Menu, and when it's done doing it's stuff it'd give control back to the firmware

Well not an idea anymore, it's working for a while now. It's just not released on gbatemp because there's no use case for the user to it. Is more like a devs thingie.
We are not sure what will or won't work there, as the whole system is on, yet you have arm9 execution (even on 10.7). There's some speculation about what could grant.
And yes, it safely returns to arm11 context now and there's full comunication between contexts.

I have this problem. Regular homebrew works, but any that require arm9 (decrypt9, emunand9) red screens and returns to HBL.
I have A9LH on sysnand, using 9.2 emunand for the homebrew.

@Bortz slightly offtopic but on CFW you're imo better off creating theme cia's with Howling Theme Tool than using CHMM2 as having them as cias allows for instant switching from the theme menu.. without opening CHMM2.

I appreciate the suggestion and will keep it in mind next time through the arm9 process. I got CHMM2 to work as a CIA. And for some reason as stated above, it made other homebrew work better lol. But should I run into this again, I'll remember this
