A way to minimise or turn off ads in Hotmail/Outlook?

Don't usually use Hotmail too much but since I have an account on it I'd want to improve my experience. I have successfully turned off the stupid 'Focused' mode back to normal but can't find any way to make the ads (for free) less intrusive.

There's that one can remove ads by paying but then that defeats the purpose of wanting to get rid of ads without paying. The other way is through Adblock, I reckon but isn't there an option somewhere in Outlook's settings to change it?

I'd want to try the Light Version of Hotmail/Outlook (it sometimes feel sluggish whereas Gmail is quick) but that's apparently a Web App-exclusive.

I only use Hotmail for selective things so it doesn't get as much use as my Gmail.

Get another Gmail account and use it for those things instead

Use Gmail and redirect your Hotmail emails to your Gmail account. I have a Hotmail email address but only use Gmail to look at it :-p

Hotmail has imap options these days (I was as surprised as anybody) http://www.betterhostreview.com/hotmail-pop-imap-smtp-settings.html . Maybe a throwaway client for just that or even https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/thunderbird_portable
That way the only ads you get will be the ones MSN (I was also surprised to see that still exists) sends from time to time.
